Jack died in Season Five’s finale, “Close To My Heart” when he was killed in a landslide, and there were discussions as to how to write him out. Loughlin shared, “We understood that our time with Dan was finite and that the actor wouldn’t be returning. If we sent him off to the Northern Territories, it would leave Elizabeth at home in Hope Valley, just longing for him; that doesn’t create much of a narrative.”
