In an interview with From the Water Tower, John Tinker, showrunner for When Calls the Heart, has teased a time jump in season 10. Despite the fact that season 10 of the Hallmark series has yet to be announced, it turns out producers have been pretty busy. In fact, producers have made it clear that the show will go on, whether renewed by Hallmark or not.
John Tinker talks season 10 on When Calls the Heart
Hearties will recall that the season 9 finale revealed Rosemary’s pregnancy after her struggle with infertility for years. Naturally, Lee was over the moon and excitedly announced the news to all of Hope Valley in that finale episode. While this was exciting news, fans soon became concerned that they would miss Rosemary’s pregnancy in the new season.
Apparently, producers are already busy planning the storyline for the tenth season. In fact, showrunner John Tinker already has plenty of plans for season 10. Tinker opened up on From the Water Tower on YouTube while discussing the season 9 finale and plans for the tenth season.
During the interview, there was is a major teaser relating to this. According to Tinker, there will be a small time jump in the new season. However, as fans of the series know, there is often a time jump before the start of a new season, so what’s new about that?
Well, according to the showrunner there will be a time jump during season 10 to the last trimester of Rosemary’s pregnancy. Tinker went on to assure fans that they won’t miss Rosemary’s pregnancy in the new season.
Showrunner loves the upcoming season 10
While talking about their plans for season 10, Tinker said he just loves this tenth season coming up, adding:
“You’re going to have babies and weddings and people in jail and sick people. They’re lined up, we’ve just got to knock them down in a way that will be uplifting to people and have lots of fun… Will we see Rosemary’s pregnancy? Indeed you will. The time jump will be the second trimester, but we’ll definitely catch her in the third trimester.”
Meanwhile, later during the interview, Tinker assured fans again that they will indeed have an opportunity to enjoy her pregnancy storyline. He said producers will give fans “baby bumps and there will be plenty of time to have her pregnant.
When Calls the Heart renewal status
Tinker also said he hasn’t heard anything yet about When Calls the Heart being renewed for season 10. “Again, not being coy, I haven’t heard anything,” he said, adding, “But I would just be stunned, shocked, and amazed if this show weren’t picked up.”
Meanwhile, Hearties are concerned, as for the last few seasons, the network has announced its renewal on the day of the season finale. However, this time around, Hallmark made no announcement.
However, executive producer and creator Brian Bird was interviewed by JLJ Media on YouTube on May 25 about the season 9 finale. Bird said they will continue the show “one way or another”, even if Hallmark doesn’t renew it for season 10.
Bird said whether or not Hallmark Channel wants to keep the show forever doesn’t really matter. He added:
“There will be somebody else who wants it because it is so unique. And we will keep making the show as long as those Hearties want to show up and watch the show.”
Fans will recall that Bird serves as executive producer for When Hope Calls, a WCTH spinoff. Season 1 of that show aired on Hallmark. However, season 2 was picked up by GAC Family. That network aired a two-episode Christmas special in December 2021, starring Hallmark alum, Lori Loughlin.
