When Hallmark Channel released When Calls the Heart for the first time in 2014, it soon became popular, with fans dubbed “Hearties.” Since then, the series has gone from strength to strength, with season 9 recently averaging 2.9 million viewers per episode. Fans will recall that in the finale of season 9, we saw Lucas (Chris McNally) proposing to Elizabeth (Erin Krakow), with the help of her son, Jack. That season finale went on to become the most-watched of the season. According to a Hallmark press release, it was also deemed to be one of the most-watched original series. Due to this, naturally, news of an upcoming tenth season was applauded by Hearties.
When Calls the Heart renewed for Season 10
When news of season 10 was released, co-executive producer and writer, Elizabeth Stewart spoke about the renewal. She said she hopes Hearties are feeling as excited as they are to dive into these “long-anticipated events.” Stewart added:
Plotting out a season is always an organic process, built step by step, but yes, we hoped by season’s end to have earned Lucas’ proposal.
As per Deadline, Lisa Hamilton Daly, executive VP of programming at Crown Media Family Networks also made a statement:
When Calls the Heart continues to push the limits as to what we can achieve with this show. There are many more stories still to be told about the lives of the beloved characters in this series and we cannot wait for everyone at home to tune in to see what unfolds.
As for Erin Krakow who plays Elizabeth, she said she was thrilled that When Calls the Heart is returning for the tenth season.
With our amazing cast, crew, and talented writers, we can look forward to more adventures, laughs, tears, and stories of romance throughout the community of Hope Valley. We are so excited for all the viewers, especially the Hearties, to continue this journey with us!
What can we expect from season 10?
So far, there has been no official news of when filming season 10 will start, or when it will premiere. However, it is likely to debut in early 2023. Meanwhile, there has been little information revealed about the tenth season. However, writer and producer Derek Thompson did tweet last month that he was working on the second episode.
Moreover, When Calls the Heart executive producer Brian Bird said there were still plenty of stories to tell, even before the renewal. In an interview with JLJ Media, he said, “There’s unfinished business in Hope Valley,” adding,
We didn’t tie up everything in [the season finale]. Because we have no intention of riding off into the sunset ourselves with this show. We will never end the show unless we decided to end the show.
What we do know is that season 10 is likely to continue to explore Bill’s (Jack Wagner) health problems. It is also expected to deal with Henry’s (Martin Cummins) legal issues and Rosemary’s (Pascale Hutton) pregnancy. Naturally,
Hearties will be excited to learn more about the upcoming wedding between Lucas and Elizabeth. McNally recently told Parade that the show will hit its 100th episode during season 10, which he said was a “cool milestone.”
While currently, we don’t know more about season 10 of When Calls the Heart, at least we do know it is coming soon.
I am so excited that Rosemary is having a baby. Lucas proposed to Elizabeth. I am so happy about that. I hope they get married soon. It would be nice for their wedding to be soon. Maybe Elizabeth could get pregnant before Rosamary has her baby.
