WCTH Stars’ New Hallmark Mystery is ‘Scooby Doo’ Meets ‘Edward Scissorhands’

Hearties are excited that Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith are now starring together in a new, original mystery. This time, they star in the Hallmark Mystery movie, Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement.

During an interview, the popular star couple described it as ˆmeets ˆ That has certainly piqued the interest of Sleuthers, who now join Hearties in their love for Hutton and Smith.

When Calls the Heart co-stars, Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith are now to star in a new Hallmark Mystery movie, Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement, far away from Hope Valley.

Us Weekly interviewed the popular pair, asking them about their first movie together. They described the movie as very “vintage retro” in its styling, due to the director, David Strasser. While the movie is set in the present, there are hints of that vibe in Nelly’s wardrobe.

According to Pascale:

There’s an outfit that she [Nelly] wears at the end of the movie. It’s like, this green dress with the trench coat over top of it and the tall boots and it just is like Scooby Doo all over it. When I put it on, I was like, ‘I’m in an episode of Scooby Doo.’

Besides Hutton’s quirky fashion, she and Smith’s characters live in a “quirky little town.” Kavan spoke up, saying the retro music and the soda shop in the movie added to “that sort of aesthetic dynamic.”

Meanwhile, Smith reflected on the “50s motif” throughout Babbelton, comparing it to “an Edward Scissorhands town kind of vibe.”

What is the plot of Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement?

The Hallmark Mystery movie sees Pascale playing an advice columnist, Nelly. One day she receives a handwritten anonymous letter from a woman who says her boyfriend is cheating on her. However, Nelly quickly recognizes the handwriting, as her childhood friend Dahlia wrote the letter.

When Nelly goes to investigate what is happening, she finds the boyfriend dead, while Dahlia becomes the main suspect. Now, she will work with Detective Mike (Smith) to find out who committed the murder.
