On tonight’s When Calls The heart episode, LJ was still upset about the hike. He was sulking about not being allowed to go. He wouldn’t eat his oatmeal or get excited about apple slices. He didn’t even look forward to the Harvest Festival. Everyone else was happy about it.

Angela came back from school to surprise her family. She knew how hard things have been with Cooper lately and she wanted to be there to celebrate now that it was all over. She too was looking forward to the Harvest Festival. The kids were all excited about it, but the children from Benson Hills were sad about going back.

Benson Hills has been rebuilt. The town was ready to welcome everyone back. Only the people of Bensons Hills have made a life for themselves in Hope Valley. They made friends. They liked their new school. They also got justice in the trial.

It was time to head back now and they can always visit. The kids were taking it much harder than the adults. They struggled at first when they got there. They now don’t want to leave. This goes for Gwen as well. She now wore dresses without complaint. She wasn’t forced into it either.

Rosemary learned her lesson there. She allowed Gwen to be herself and the girl has flourished. She liked staying with the Coulters. It seemed to be just her and her dad in Benson Hills. He’s been in the hospital since the fire. She got to enjoy family life since staying with Rosemary and Lee.

It was going to be hard to say goodbye to. Especially now that the kids are going to be saying goodbye to a bird’s eye view of Hope Valley. Nathan rigged up a safety net so that kids could go up the water tower without danger.

He did it for LJ. He wanted to show that he could step up to be a good husband as well as father. LJ couldn’t go to Parksons Peak so Nathan brought the view to Hope Valley. LJ loved it. Elizabeth loved seeing how happy he was. How happy Nathan made him.

Nathan was about to take Bill’s advice. He was going to propose without waiting for the perfect moment when the other kids from school found out about the water tower and they all wanted to go up. Nathan didn’t get the chance to propose then. He was too busy with the kids. And so he had to wait for another moment.

Bill tried to tell him that he didn’t need the fancy stuff. Bill did that with Nora. He planned a romantic meal with wine and music. He even learned a song to perform just for her. It didn’t do him any good because a marriage was about more than a proposal.

He told Nathan to keep it simple and just when he was about to follow through – they got interrupted. He tried planning something before again being interrupted. There simply did not seem to be a right time to propose. Which was ironic after everything they did just to get Elizabeth’s ring size.

Then came the Harvest Festival. Lucas’s magic show was a great hit. Edie was there and she enjoyed the show. Lucas as Governor also announced something big. He was stepping down as governor. He planned on endorsing Mayor Hickam to replace him.

He didn’t tell her about this. She was left as surprised as everyone else by the news. In spite of that, she still was ready to take on the mantle. She fought tooth and nail for her town. Her brother convinced her she could do the same for her territory.

Still, why was Lucas stepping down? He didn’t tell anyone beforehand. It seemed to be a decision he made on the fly and yet he was doing it for love. Lucas felt his hands were too tied by the office. He wanted to help people. He wanted to chase after love.

Edie was going to New York for a couple of months and before she left Lucas finally said how he felt. Edie felt the same. They agreed to pursue their feelings. Lucas finally found a love worth fighting for. Elizabeth found the same with Nathan. They said goodbye to the children from Benson Hills.

It was a tearful sendoff. Only time was running away from Nathan in more ways than one. His Ally was growing up and she finally realized what Angela noticed from the start. Ally and Oliver were crazy about each other. Nathan also had a proposal to worry about.

They left it to the very last moments of the season, but Nathan asked Elizabeth to marry him as they were both up on the water tower. And she said yes.

And Hope Valley welcomed the return of Abigail Stanton.

THE END!
