Hallmark recently announced a rebranding of HMM (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) to Hallmark Mystery, which many fans are happy to see. Still, it had been a good two years since decided to “back off” from this type of content, so what’s the change all about?
A recent interview from a top Hallmark Media executive adds some insight.
Hallmark Mystery Spoilers – Why The Change Of Heart?
The rebranding of Hallmark Mystery means that the network will be airing these kinds of movies both day and night.
MCN recently interviewed Hallmark’s Executive Vice President of Programming, Lisa Hamilton Daly, who provided the “thought process” as to why the network is bringing back mystery movies after two years of taking a step back.
Lisa notes that she’s been with Hallmark for just over two years, and when she arrived, the network had “backed off” of mystery movies, leaning into more “romantic dramas”. Ms. Hamilton Daly goes on to say that these didn’t feel “distinct enough” for her from what they were doing on the main channel.
Plus, they weren’t rating as well as everyone would have liked them to. Still, Lisa says that there was so much “fan sentiment” around their mysteries, and the rebranding of the channel acknowledges that.
Looks like viewers made all the difference when it came to Hallmark diving back into mystery movies.
Hallmark Mystery Spoilers – Network Focused On Old Favs & “Fresh” New Mysteries
About a year ago, Lisa talked with Decider about the future of mysteries at Hallmark and she noted that the network would be “leaning back” into this genre. She said at the time, Hallmark would bring back fan favorites from the past, including Hannah Swensen.
Still, she also stated that they wanted some new mysteries, too. Since then, Hallmark has debuted over 12 new mystery series, much to many fans’ delight.
The next one on the horizon is Crimes of Fashion: Killer Clutch, starring Gilles Marini and Brooke D’Orsay.

Love murder mysteries and anything that Allison Sweeney is in all of her movies are great and Hannah Sweensen is a staple, always great.
I was watching HM&M less because of the lack of Mysteries. I love the old ones, and some of the new ones are good. But I am a mystery buff.
