Coming soon to our screens on Hallmark Channel is a charming and romantic movie, Hanukkah on Rye. According to the official synopsis, Molly (Yael Grobglas) is about to become the fourth generation of her family to run Gilbert’s Deli on the Lower East Side of New York City. However, now, almost 100 years later, Gilbert’s is the last, old-school Jewish deli still standing, and it is getting harder and harder to make ends meet.
Meanwhile, Jacob’s (Jeremy Jordan) family is “deli royalty” in Southern California and runs their business in a completely different way. However, Jacob wants to make his own mark in the deli world and to do that, he is leading the expansion of Leven’s to New York City, a few blocks away from Gilbert’s.
A couple of weeks before the first night of Hanukkah, Jacob’s “bubby” (grandmother) gives him an early Hanukkah present. She has signed him up with an infamous matchmaker. Meanwhile, Molly’s grandmother (Linda Darlow) has the same idea. Under the rules of matchmaking, Jacob and Molly must exchange handwritten letters under assumed names to get to know each other.
As the pair communicates with each other under the pseudonyms of Beth and David, they start to fall for each other. However, in the meanwhile, Jacob has traveled to New York to close the deal for the new Leven’s location.
In the meantime, Molly and Jacob meet in real life, with neither aware that they already know each other as Beth and David from their letters. In fact, there is an instant romantic connection between them over Hanukkah week. However, when Molly finally learns Jacob’s identity she realizes he could potentially put her family’s deli out of business.
Now, Molly is torn between “David,” who she has started to fall for thanks to his letters, and Jacob, who she can’t help being attracted to despite their conflicts. Finally, will Molly and Jacob be able to put their differences aside and get their own Hanukkah miracle?
