First it was Taylor Dunklin and Brandon Reid whose marriage has failed on season 10 of Married at First Sight. Now another couple is giving it all up. Michael Watson has decided to file to annul his marriage to Meka Jones on the grounds that he was “defrauded” into wedding her.
Married at First Sight Spoilers: Michael Watson and Meka Jones split
Let’s face it, getting married at first sight is no easy task. While some of the series’ past couples are still going strong, others find it necessary to throw in the towel and give up. This was the case with Taylor Dunklin and Brandon Reid. Now it relates to Michael Watson and Meka Jones.
Reality TV World recently posted on Instagram to say they have got their hands on documents, proving Watson has filed to annul his marriage to Meka. This was reportedly because Michael believes he was “defrauded” into the process by the experts and producers on Married at First Sight. His complaint was filed only a few weeks after Brandon Reid filed for an annulment from Taylor Dunklin.
According to the filing, Michael said he had taken part in MAFS as he had assumed he would be matched with someone with whom he was compatible and could establish a lasting and committed marriage. However, he has since come to realize this isn’t the real point of the show.
Married at First Sight Spoilers: Michael was ‘defrauded’ into the process
Due to all that has transpired between that time and now, Michael believes the actual goal of the “experiment” is to create excitement and drama for television ratings, rather than forming a lasting, committed union. When filing the annulment, his attorney said that if Michael had been aware of this prior to agreeing to participate in the show, he would not have agreed to it and would not have legally married Meka.
Michael also made mention in the filing that he had found out Meka’s legal name, Kwaneja Jones, during the filming of the show. She had reportedly applied to change her name to Meka last year. However, the name change didn’t come into effect until January 2020, which means Meka Jones wasn’t her legal name when she was wed.
While Michael and Meka’s wedding was filmed in August 2019, they apparently officially became separated on October 1. When the couple married, things seemed to be pretty good between them. However, things changed, according to the filing, when they were on their way to their honeymoon. Meka claimed Michael had told her off-camera that they must have sex during the honeymoon for him to feel comfortable about proceeding with the marriage. Meka called him out on this on camera, but he insisted this isn’t what he said.
In fact, their communication hasn’t been good all along, which likely meant they were never a good match to start with. Michael was lugging a load of emotional baggage from his past, while Meka made a lot of demands.
We will have to keep watching Married at First Sight to find out what the last straw was for Michael and Meka and whether they decided to end it on Decision Day. The show is never happy with an annulment of one of the marriages and so far its two couples out of five in season 10. Who knows? Maybe there could be more.
