Melania Trump was born Melanija Knavs on April 26, 1970 in Slovenia, to Viktor and Amalija Knavs. She is the first foreign-born first lady since Louisa Adams, the wife of John Quincy Adams.
Melania took a 10-year journey to gain her American citizenship. She moved to the United States in 1996 on a H1-B visa and gained her green card in 2001. In 2006 she officially became a U.S. citizen, one year after she married Donald Trump.
5.Melania Trump Has Mad Creative Skills
When she was little, Melania Trump made her own jewelry and clothing designs, which her mother or sister sewed for her. She followed her passion by designing a jewelry line collections for QVC.
Melania was working toward a degree in architecture at Slovenia’s University of Ljubljana but became a model after being discovered at a casting call.
She spent one year in college before becoming a fashion model in Milan and Paris. It was during this time that she changed her surname to Knauss.
