Emma Watson Takes Center Stage At ‘Harry Potter’ Cast Reunion

Why hello, Hermione Granger. Emma Watson, who portrayed Hermione in the “Harry Potter” films, ruled over her court of fellow cast members at their recent reunion, reported the Daily Mail. Celebrating their movies’ 20th anniversary, the “Harry Potter” cast clearly enjoyed gathering together again.

“Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” will stream on New Year’s Day, with the cast reunion playing a key role. Stars range from Emma, 31, to Tom Felton, 34, who portrayed Draco Malfoy to Robbie Coltrane, 71, who played Hagrid. Previews of the anniversary show also include Evanna Lynch, 30, who portrayed Luna Lovegood, and Bonnie Wright, 30, who played Ginny Weasley. And Helena Bonham Carter, 55, who portrayed Bellatrix Lestrange, also appears.

But J.K. Rowling fans wanted to know about the famous author of the “Harry Potter” books, now 56. And in some ways, Rowling’s rumored absence seemed the most notable aspect of the sneak peeks from the reunion.

Does ‘Harry Potter 20th Anniversary’ Snub J.K. Rowling?

Reports vary on if “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts” will include the movies’ author J.K. Rowling. Some rumors allege that the Harry Potter creator’s controversial transgender issues views resulted in a snub. But other reports point out that Rowling does make an appearance in the upcoming show.

J.K. Rowling does not make an appearance in person during the “Harry Potter” reunion event. But the author does appear in a video clip. In that footage from 2019, Rowling talks about searching for the perfect child actor to portray Harry Potter. The famous author recalls how happy she felt when she discovered Daniel Radcliffe.

But rumors of a snub from the actual 2021 “Harry Potter” cast and crew reunion seem to focus on speculation about her gender identity views. Last year, Rowling published an essay contending that gender identity should  not get prioritized over a person’s biological sex. As a result of that essay, the “Harry Potter” author got bombarded with claims that her stance showed transphobia.

In contrast to Rowling, several “Harry Potter” cast members expressed their support for the transgender and LGBT community. For instance, Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe disagreed with Rowling and support the trans community. Will “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts” mention any aspects of the controversy? We’ll find out when “Return to Hogwarts” streams on New Year’s Day.
