“Ghostbusters – Afterlife” Sequel Releases First Teaser
There was certainly some spooky energy at CinemaCon this Monday, April 24, thanks to Sony giving fans a slight taste of their “Ghostbusters‘” universe. After their 2021 “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” revived global interest in the franchise, there was no going back.
The teased video shows McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon sporting the easily recognizable Ghostbusters uniforms. We learn that they would be living under one roof in New York at the Ghostbusters firehouse.
The director of “Afterlife” Jason Reitman will be writing, whereas his former co-writer Gil Kenan will be taking over directing duties. Talk about a proper switcheroo. The upcoming sequel is said to bring back several “Afterlife” actors, including, Logan Kim and Celeste O’Connor back. The returning stars will be joined by first timers Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster and Emily Alyn Lind.
“Afterlife” was able to bring in $204 million, which is a strong number at the time, considering that the industry was still recovering from the coronavirus and the lockdowns it caused. This upcoming sequel is the first following the death of Jason Reitman’s father Ivan Reitman, the director of the original “Ghostbusters.”
Jason Reitman – On Watching “Afterlife” With His Father
At the event, Jason Reitman recalled screening “Afterlife” at CinemaCon two years ago.
“It was a huge night for me. It was the first time my father and I watched the movie together with an audience. We were showing the movie, it was just crushing,” said Reitman. “And halfway through my father leans over to me…”
Reitman naturally thought his father wanted to compliment him and leaned in. Instead, he heard him say, “You really have to lose that shot of the car going over the bridge.”
