Movie roles come and go. But the role of Superman belongs in a world all its own. As a result, different actors have sought to portray the man with supreme powers. And many thought Henry Cavill had succeeded.
But now Cavill has shared shocking news. And it’s time to hang up his Superman capes. Who will be next? And why did Henry lose his role? Get the details below.
Henry Cavill – Hangs Up Superman Cape
Superman, farewell! Stunning his fans, 39-year-old Henry Cavill shared his firing from his role as Superman. And the news came only weeks after he shared his comeback, noted the Daily Mail.
“My turn to wear the cape has passed,” shared Cavill on Instagram. But fans wanted to know why even as they mourned. However, the new heads of DC Films reportedly feel determined to transform the legendary franchise with younger actors.
And the news of Henry’s firing comes at a pivotal time for the franchise. Gal Gadot just watched her Wonder Woman 3 get axed. However, many thought that Cavill would hold onto his role after portraying Superman in 2013, 2016 and 2017.
Warner Bros. DC – Films Shakes Up Superheroes
The shakeup for DC films comes after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as heads. And industry experts predict that the duo will unveil some of their proposals for the extended universe of superheroes soon. But the timing seems wrong to many of Cavill’s fans.
Henry only recently appeared in a cameo for his Superman role. And that appearance at the end of Warner Bros. Black Adam hinted at a massive showdown between Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) and Superman. But will someone else put on Superman’s cape for that showdown?
In his Instagram bombshell, Cavill avoided even a hint of shade. And he kept his statements simple as he shared that he will not return as Superman.“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran,” said the actor about the DC films bosses. “And it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.”
Henry Cavill – Shares Superman Is ‘Still Around’
However, even as fans expressed fury, Cavill sought to calm them. And he shared, “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest. But that’s life,” pointed out the former Superman.
And Henry shared his respect for the film heads. “The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build,” noted Cavill. “I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and happiest of fortunes.”
But then the actor recognized “those who have been by my side through the years.” And he acknowledged, “We can mourn for a bit.” However, in a moment true to the superhero he portrayed, Cavill added, “But then we must remember…. Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there!”
