Aquaman star Jason Momoa has discovered the secret to eating whatever you want without gaining an ounce. And the Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom star joked that he just shovels in the food while working hard and playing even harder.
Find out what Jason shared about filming the challenging role of Aquaman. And keep reading to learn what the actor teased about the movie, which begins showing in theaters this month.
Jason Momoa – Talks Playing Aquaman
What does it take to portray Aquaman? According to Jason Momoa via People, it involves a routine of “work hard, eat hard, play hard, just do it.” But the actor, 44, also shared that he didn’t follow an elaborate calorie-counting food plan to star in Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom.
And the movie, which begins showing in theaters on December 22, required Jason to move constantly. As a result, “I don’t do calories. I just eat,” added Momoa. And he didn’t even worry about what types of foods to eat.
Amid preparing for and filming Aquaman, Jason ate “everything. Because you’re burning so many calories, I just eat and consume. I’m constantly moving and work long days. I just shovel it in, and then work hard.”
Superhero Role Requires Preparation
But Momoa clarified that he became fit specifically for the role of the half-Atlantean/half-human superhero. And he noted that rather than exercising for vanity, he worked out to stay healthy in order to star in those intense scenes.
“I don’t really do it for vanity,” shared Jason. “It’s more so I don’t get hurt. You’ve got to be prepared. You’re putting on a suit that’s going to weigh 40 pounds. You’ve got to be able to move. That kind of action just puts a lot of weight on your knees. So, you just do it so you don’t get hurt.”
However, Momoa also teased that the upcoming movie will reveal a new aspect of Aquaman. Because the movie shows the superhero as both a husband to his wife Mera (Amber Heard) and a father. As a result, Jason sees the role as providing “all things I never got to play in the last four films that I’ve done.”
Aquaman – Movie Shows New Side
However, Momoa feels that fans “need to see this side of him. So that was my request,” he added. “And I think people are going to really love it.”
A sneak peek revealed Momoa holding a golden trident and stating, “Feels good to be back.” And the sequel to the 2018 movie shows Aquaman’s challenges as Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) makes a comeback in an attempt to get revenge on Atlantis. But Aquaman and his half-brother (Patrick Wilson) team up to block Black Manta.
And Mateen II, 37, reflected on Jason’s portrayal of the superhero. “Jason’s brought his own self and his style, his taste and his culture. He introduced the world to that side of Aquaman,” he said. But Wilson, 50, described the character as “so much of Jason. He’s able to bring out [all] sides of himself onscreen.”
However, Momoa summed up what he views as higher than ever stakes for Aquaman. And the actor pointed out that with a family to shield, “the bar is set so high. Arthur could lose his son and his wife.”
