Kelsey Grammer &  Spencer Grammer In 12 Days Of Christmas Eve on Lifetime

Frasier star Kelsey Grammer is starring in the upcoming Lifetime movie, 12 Days of Christmas Eve, along with his daughter, Spencer. In fact, starring in the Lifetime movie together has reportedly helped to heal the strained relationship. Read on to find out more about the father and child, starring in the same Christmas movie.

Kelsey Grammer, 67, is the first to admit to his strained relationship with his oldest child, Spencer. This was especially so after he split from her mother, actress Doreen Alderman when Spencer was a toddler. Meanwhile, his daughter is known for starring in Greek and is a voice actress in Rick & Morty.

However, now Kelsey and Spencer are starring together in the Lifetime holiday movie, 12 Days of Christmas Eve. Ironically, they are playing the roles of a father and daughter with a strained relationship. Speaking to People, Kelsey said: “I certainly regret I let her down a couple of times.”

Reportedly, it was work that took him away from his children when he was cast in Cheers in 1984. According to Kelsey, the role and the sudden 20-hour workdays changed everything at the time. Speaking of Spencer, he said, “Obviously she was a child of divorce,” adding, “It was hard on us.”

However, he now says, “I feel sorry about it, but I’m also thankful that we had a chance to make amends.”

In fact, Grammer, who has six younger children, was pitching the Lifetime movie The 12 Days of Christmas Eve. As the plot relates to a self-centered and workaholic father who puts his work above being there for his family, he soon realized his daughter would be the ideal person to play his onscreen daughter.

In the movie, Spencer plays the role of a hard-working surgeon and single mom. Moreover, she is endlessly disappointed by her father not being there for her. However, at that time, Kelsey hadn’t asked Spencer if she would be interested to star in the movie. At the time he said they would have to ensure she really wants to play the role, adding, “Because you never know,” adding, “We blow hot and cold like all fathers and daughters do.”

About Spencer Grammer

For the past five years, Spencer, 39, has been busy getting her graduate degree in directing from Columbia University in New York City. She admits she didn’t immediately say yes to the role. However, after chatting with her father more, and working out schedules, she realized it could be fun for both of them to work together onscreen. Obviously, it made it easier that the plot was very similar to their real-life relationship. Speaking to People, she said:

There’s definitely aspects of this movie that resonate with me personally. First of all, playing daughter to your actual father is something unique. He’s been such an incredible influence on my craft and my performances and also my work ethic, so working with him was actually quite a pleasure.

In fact, the message in the movie resonated with both of them. Basically, the story was about being selfless and putting those you love above work and money. Moreover, this is the true meaning of Christmas and also, the meaning of life.

Meanwhile, shooting the movie wasn’t just fun, but was also a bonding experience for both of them.

Spencer explained that in the movie, the father and daughter get to repair their relationship at some point. She added that the dad comes back to “really, really figure out what the meaning of Christmas truly is.”

Kelsey’s daughter said that honestly, for her, the month during which they shot the movie was “incredibly fun and wonderful to spend time with my dad.” Meanwhile, Spencer said it was “really healing” for them both. Laughing, she added, “So thank you Lifetime, for the therapy!”

In fact, they had so much fun, father and daughter are already talking about making a sequel. This would focus on Spencer’s character, going through something similar to her father’s role in the film, basically neglecting family when work takes all her time and energy.

Meanwhile, on his side, Kelsey said he would love to work with Spencer again, saying:

She’s terrific in the film. She’s a very talented woman and I’m very proud of her. I even got to say that on camera a couple of times, along with a few things I never got to tell her. So it all turned out really well.

12 Days of Christmas Eve premieres on Lifetime on Saturday, November 26 at 8 pm ET.
