Nurse Jackie Spoilers – Plot And Returning Characters Revealed For the ‘Nurse Jackie’ Revival
A nurse’s shift is never done. Almost a decade after the original series concluded its seven season run, Edie Falco has signed on to reprise her role in a ‘Nurse Jackie’ sequel series.
Variety reported that the project, which is being produced by Lionsgate and currently in development at Amazon MGM Studio, is set for a streaming release at Prime Video.
The series will continue to follow Falco’s character, an emergency room nurse who struggles with addiction to drugs. Last we saw her, she had snorted more heroin than her body could carry and ended up passing out at the hospital.
Per the press release, the upcoming sequel will kick off “10 years after we left Jackie Peyton clinging to life in the series finale, we find her back on her feet in spite of having lost her nursing license.
The continuation of her story will find her facing new dilemmas in trying to be good in a world where being bad is often not only easier, but a lot more fun.”
The update that the show is now in development with a working script comes a year after news first surfaced that there is interest to bring back the hit show at Showtime.
At the time, Deadline reported that ‘Nurse Jackie’ and ‘Weeds’ are two shows being “fast-tracked” with an expected 2024 debut.
Due to Showtime relaunching and rebranding in a package with Paramount+ in January, there’s little hope the 2024 debut timeline still applies.
While release date is yet to be confirmed, we know Falco will return as the lead star as well as an executive producer on the show. She shares this role with original series writers-producers Liz Flahive and Abe Sylvia and former Showtime chief Bob Greenblatt.
Flahive and Sylvia will return as writers on the series, with Sylvia serving as the show’s director.
