We’ve had animated Barbies and doll Barbies for a long time, but what we’re yet to have is a live-action version of the global character. That’s where Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, Dua Lipa and many others come in. Of course, this journey wouldn’t have been complete without Greta Gerwig at the helm.
At CinemaCon, the “he’s just Ken” Ryan Gosling confessed he had a hard time channeling Ken properly because he doubted his “Ken-ergy.”
Ryan Gosling – Says Greta Gerwig Helped Him Find the Ken That’s Within Him
Gosling just confessed that his inner Ken did not come out at first this Tuesday during this year’s CinemaCon held at Vegas. The star stepped up on stage when it was Warner Bros. Pictures’ time to present what they have in store for fans, and revealed that “up until this point, I only knew Ken from afar. I didn’t know Ken from within.”
“I doubted my Ken-ergy. I didn’t see it,” he added, saying that it was ultimately conjured out of him by director Greta Gerwig and co-star Margot Robbie.
When he landed the role, Gosling underwent a major transformation to become the popular doll by bleaching his hair, tanning his skin, and shaving his legs. Gotta be smooth as Ken now, mustn’t we?
“I was living my life and the next thing I knew, I was bleaching my hair and shaving my legs and rollerblading on Venice Beach,” Gosling joked.
He said that while he questioned the amount of transformations he was undergoing to play this character, he appreciated really being overtaken by “pink fever.”
Another thing we learned at the event was that, even though Gosling doubted at first that he could properly become Ryan, Gerwig and Robbie never doubted for one moment that he was the best fit to play the character.
