Scripts Are Now Being Written For HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’

Scripts Are Now Being Written For HBO's 'Harry Potter'HBO’s Harry Potter series is off to a good start, with scripts being written, casting opening in the UK and Ireland, and a director already assigned to the project. Here’s everything we know so far about the series set to premiere late 2026 to early 2027.

JK Rowling Opens Up About Reading Pilot Script For ‘Harry Potter’ Show

Welcome to platform 9 and 3 quarters, everyone. The franchise that has thrilled people for decades is returning in the form of a TV show.

The main selling point for the project is that it will be a faithful adaptation of the books and probably restore some characters and scenes that were cut in the original adaptation.

To make sure it’s a proper adaptation, HBO has decided to give JK Rowling more authority on the show’s production, with the bestselling author interviewing “Succession” alums Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod before announcing them as the writer and director.

“Both have a genuine passion for #HarryPotter, and having read Francesca’s pilot script and heard Mark’s vision, I’m certain the TV show will more than live up to expectations,” Rowling shared.

In April 2023, Max sent the Potter fandom in a spiral when the platform released a press release announcing interest in adapting the popular book series. “The stories from each of Rowling’s Harry Potter books will become a decade-long series produced with the same epic craft, love and care this global franchise is known for,” they said.

“The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years.”

What Daniel Radcliffe Has Said About Returning To ‘Harry Potter’ Over A Decade After the Franchise’s Last Installment

Daniel Radcliffe played the beloved titular character Harry Potter from 2001 to 2011. With the new adaptation officially entering production, fans were eager to know whether the boy who started it all would make somewhat of a return in the new series.

“I think they very wisely want to [have] a clean break. And I don’t know if it would work to have us do anything in it,” Radcliffe told E! News, adding, “I’m very happy to just watch along with everyone else.”

When asked whether he’d take the opportunity to come back if it was ever offered, he replied, “I’m gonna be a politician about this, and not deal in hypotheticals.”
