See What Anne Hathaway Has To Say About ‘Princess Diaries’ Return

It’s about to be an Anne Hathaway resurgence with the greenlighting of both ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ and ‘Princess Diaries 3.’ It’s like we’re in the 2000s again, and I have to admit, it feels good.

Can you imagine that our favorite fictional princess is going to be back on our screens for another adventure? Shut up!

Anne Hathaway Confirms the Return of Mia Thermopolis In the Upcoming ‘Princess Diaries’ Installment

It’s been over a decade since we last saw what Mia Thermopolis was up to. A quick recap: the film follows Mia, an average American teenage girl who discovers that she is the heir of the fictional realm Genovia.

Even though she discovers her identity in the first movie, she is only crowned in the second after turning 18 and successfully disposing of the rule which states that she must be married before her coronation ceremony.

That’s the last we saw of our Princess and her newly minted Prince – played by Chris Pratt. Luckily for us, the production team isn’t looking forward to rebooting the whole thing and starting afresh.

The upcoming installment will still feature our beloved Mia, as confirmed by Anne Hathaway when she posted a video on Instagram mouthing her iconic Mia line “shut up!”

She further captioned the post with, “Miracles happen. Back to Genovia with @adeleblim @disney @somewherepictures. The fairy tale continues.”

In 2019, Hathaway revealed that a script for the third movie has already been written, adding, “I want to do it, Julie wants to do it, Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen.” Guess what? So do we!

What Will ‘Princess Diaries 3’ Be About?

Already, a director has been attached to the project in the form of the iconic Adele Lim, whose work in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ received critical acclaim. He’s also known for penning the script to the beloved children animated movie ‘Raya and the Last Dragon.’

“As a diehard fan of the original ‘Princess Diaries’, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life. We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide,” Lim said in a statement released by Variety.

Filming for the film – officially greenlit on Friday, Oct. 4 – is set to begin this year.
