Teaser For “The Penguin” Drops, Release Date Confirmed

Come on, you must have known that it’s only a matter of time before “The Penguin” gets his own time to shine. I mean, with “The Joker” having several features where he’s the main character, why not Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin? The guy who could kill someone just to steal his shoes and turn around and swear to his mother that he wouldn’t hurt a fly.

Like the Joker, the Penguin is a unique villain in the sense that he’s a cold merciless killer who happens to have an extreme fear of death. He may not be as crazy as the painted guy, but he sure as well comes with his own baggage.

What We Know About HBO Max’s “The Penguin” Series

“The Penguin” is a spin-off series focusing on Colin Farrell’s titular Gotham City gangster from the 2022 blockbuster film “The Batman.” On Wednesday, April 12, Warner Bros. Discovery executives unveiled the first look at “The Penguin.” The preview was a part of the company’s Wednesday presentation of its streaming service, Max, which combines both the HBO Max and Discovery offerings.

The show, which has reportedly entered production, will be made up of eight episodes. The premise for the series follows the events taking place after Paul Dano’s the Riddler kills Carmine Falcone, one of Gotham City’s top mob bosses. Following this, the Riddler decides to flood the major downtown area as part of a coordinated terrorist attack. This is where Farrell’s Cobblepot comes in to take advantage of a city thrown into chaos and tap into the recently opened power vacuum within Gotham’s underworld.

The series is expected to premiere early to mid-2024.
