It’s certainly been a fun year for Anne Hathaway, no doubt, with the return of two of her fan-favorite movies. One, she’ll be heading back to Genovia as its princess-turned-queen, and two, she’ll be returning for the sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’
That said, we’re here to get you up to speed on all things ‘Princess Diaries 3,’ including what you can expect from it.
Adele Lim Joins ‘The Princess Diaries’ As Director, Says New Movie Will Continue the Franchise’s Legacy
It’s been over two decades since ‘The Princess Diaries’ premiered and launched Anne Hathaway to global stardom. Even though there’s a viral post on X claiming that it’s Hathaway’s very first project, it is not. But that doesn’t detract from the importance of the movie for Anne Hathaway, or for pop culture in general.
In April 2024, Hathaway boldly called it “the film that changed my life,” saying that she was invited to participate in the discussions to shape her fiesty teenage character, even though she was a teenager herself at the time.
Joining on as director for ‘The Princess Diaries: A Royal Return,’ Adele Lim, who is known for working on such movies as ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ and ‘Raya and the Last Dragon,’ shared her enthusiasm for the project.
Her promise? A sequel that celebrates the core themes of the original two.
“As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” Lim stated. “We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
Who Will Be Returning For ‘Princess Diaries 3’
Anne Hathaway will definitely be returning and confirmed it in the cutest and most royal-like of ways. Shut up!
Even though Julie Andrews continues to be open-minded about returning to the franchise, her return is not yet announced.
Not only are we not sure about her return, but Chris Pine’s character may be written out entirely. When asked about it, all Pine had to say was, “I don’t know anything… Call Disney! Call Bob Iger!” Teenage me is kicking and squirming right now.
Almost every star that appeared in the first two movies have voiced out their desire to return, including Sandra Oh, Mandy Moore, Heather Matarazzo and more.
