Tia Mowry-Hardict Reacts To Sister, Sister Reboot That Got ‘Put On Hold’

Tia Mowry-Hardict Tia Mowry-Hardict revealed in a PEOPLE interview that she is still pretty much looking forward to seeing the reboot of Sister, Sister, the movie that first gained her and her twin sister recognition.

Making an appearance on PEOPLE’s defend yourself, the actress said that there are thoughts to develop the reboot of the 90’s sitcom but that there were legal issues that were holding it up.

Sister, Sister Reboot

Tia and her sister began their career by entering pageants and talent shows when the family were still living in Fort Hood, Texas. At the age of 12, they convinced their mother to move to California so that they could have greater chances of pursuing and developing their acting career. Their mother agreed only on the condition that they land a role within the first month of their stay.

In 1990, the family moved to California, settling in Los Angeles, and she and her sister began by appearing in commercials and small roles.

Her most famous role was playing Tia Landry in the show Sister, Sister. The show was about identical twins that were separated at birth but were later reunited in their teenage years. The series was developed specifically for them when a producer spotted them on the set of Full House, a show which their brother made regular appearances in.

Sister, Sister was originally broadcast on ABC, but was cancelled by the network after two years and was later picked up by WB, where it continued its run for another four years.

Potential Plans for Sister, Sister Reboot

“What’s in the way is the rights,” Tia admitted, “We ended up moving forward with it and we didn’t have all of the rights in place – I guess there were still some legalities that needed to come into place that put it on hold.”
“And once that put it on hold, then Tamera and I are not just sitting around, you know what I mean?” Mowry-Hardict, 42, continued expressing her regrets that the show was not moving forward. “She gets an opportunity, I get an opportunity –but yeah, it’s sad.”

Sister, Sister aired for six seasons, running from 1994 to 1999. In 2019, Mowry-Hardict talked about plans to do a reboot of the show in an interview with PEOPLE.

“I hate to say it, but it’s kind of dead,” the actress said at the time. “Nothing’s going on right now,” she commented, going on to comfort fans with hope of change in the future, “but that doesn’t mean that it’s not going to happen at all. Never say never.”

Tia’s sister Tamera has also spoken out about the movie and what it meant to her. “To see the younger generation loving it just as much as our generation did, it’s really cool to relieve that moment,” she said when Sister, Sister was made available on Netflix for the first time in the month leading up to the comment, “When I was doing Sister, Sister, I never thought of it that way,” she continued, also adding that she’s glad to be able to watch it with her kids and have them love it. She said it opened her eyes to the show’s worth.
