Viewers cringed last month as they watched Elly confess to husband Mark that he wasn’t the father of her unborn baby, as well as all the appalling tactics that she used to avoid to conceal the truth.
They’ve been separate ever since, but Shaun Watkins, the real father of the baby, becomes convinced that Elly could still reunite with her ex. He takes it upon himself to interfere, asking Mark outright whether he still has feelings for Elly, even offering to leave town if he is getting in the way of their reconciliation. Mark doesn’t give a straight answer – probably because he’s been bombarded with questions – but Shaun is further convinced that his theory is right.
After Shaun relays the information, Elly visits Mark to find out for herself. She’s shocked to learn that he still hasn’t filed the annulment papers he asked her to sign. She takes this as a indication that they still might get back together, and when the conversation gets emotional, they both lean in for a kiss.
Confused by what happened, Mark askes Elly for some space to figure out what he’s feeling. Elly confidently returns home and tells Shaun that she thinks there’s a good chance, but Mark visits Toadie and reveals that he doesn’t think it’s a good idea for them to be together again.
He ultimately believes this is right, and when Elly comes back to visit Mark he reveals that he’s now filed their annulment papers and their marriage is over.
