Some are already calling 2025 the year that the Netflix trinity of TV series will touch ground. We are saying our final goodbyes to ‘Stranger Things,’ finally getting our hands on ‘Wednesday’ season 2 after such a long wait, and the last but not the least, getting the ending we deserve from ‘Squid Game’ after the second season literally left us hanging.
I mean, fans are swearing for that show. Happily, season 3 is right around the corner. Here’s what we know so far.
‘Squid Game’ Season 3 Will Introduce Fans To A Totally Different Player 456 Seong Gi-hun
‘Squid Game’ season 1 swept through the whole globe like a fever, but season 2 is doing even more miraculous things.
According to reports, Squid Game is the only Netflix show to go number one in 92 of the 93 countries Netflix is operating in, landing in number 2 in New Zealand. It also broke the record biggest premiere week for a Netflix series ever — in only four days.
With fans fuming over the way the second season ended – one fan said it felt like they ran out of time and decided to release it like that – ‘Squid Game’s’ creator, director writer and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that season 3 is coming sooner than we think.
Hwang told Variety, “At this point, anything I might say is going to be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious. But what I can say is, after Season 2 launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for Season 3 soon. I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year. But as for the storyline of the third season, Gi-hun having lost everything, including his best friend, and all of his attempts going to failure, it’s now, what is he going to be like? What state is Gi-hun going to be in? And what will he choose to do? Will he continue on with the mission? Is he going to give up or persist? And so you’re going to meet our character Gi-hun at a very critical crossroads as we begin the third season. Gi-hun will not be the man he was in Season 2.”
What To Expect From The “Clash” Between Seong Gi-hun and Front Man
For some who want to get a touch of what season 3 could be like, Hwang encourages you to pay more attention to the post-credits scene that comes after season 2’s finale episode. “If you watch that clip, it’s going to give you a slight hint as to where Season 3 might take you,” he said.
In a letter to fans, he teased a more intense rivalry between Player 456, aka yours truly Seong Gi-hun, and Front Man. He wrote, “The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”
He also teased the return of VIPs, the wealthy spectators who enjoyed watching the poor peasants fight and die as they bet millions on the outcome, as fans last saw in the first season. “They’re coming. They’re on the way. Their chopper is flying over the island now.”
So just brace yourselves.
