Per reports, ‘One Tree Hill‘ will be returning with certain members of the original cast. The catch? It will be set two decades after the original series ended and will find the characters with their own children. It will follow Brooke and Peyton as they face similar challenges to the ones they faced in the original series, but as grownups.
Everything We Know About Netflix’s Upcoming ‘One Tree Hill’ Sequel
We’re in the era of reboots and revivals, and this fever has finally caught up with ‘One Tree Hill’ – the show that thrilled audiences with its depiction of teenage problems.
The original series aired for nine seasons from 2003 to 2012, first on WB and then the CW. The coming of age drama follows several teens living in the fictional North Carolina town of Tree Hill.
Netflix has chosen to reboot the show, with stars Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Daneel Ackles set to reprise their roles, as well as serving as the series executive producers. Per some unconfirmed rumors, Netflix has chosen not to bring back Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty – who played half-brothers in the original series.
Sharing the good news with fans on Instagram, Sophia Bush wrote, “What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.”
She added, “There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you — the #OTHfam — have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where “everything’s better and everything’s safe.””
Per the synopsis, the sequel will find Peyton and Brooke, who are now parents to teens, “facing challenges not unfamiliar to what they tackled in the original series like love, insecurities, and grief.”
Fans React To ‘One Tree Hill’ Reboot
While some fans were over the moon about the news, others weren’t sure the show could progress smoothly without certain characters.
“Full body chills and tears running down my cheeks,” one fan gushed on Instagram. “You guys are taking it all BACK & going back HOME ❤️”
However, some fans are suspecting that there are characters that will not be returning due to drama that happened behind-the-scenes of ‘Drama Queen,’ and if they’re not back, then the whole plot would likely fall apart.
“This show can’t happen without Joy,” one fan commented on the announcement post. “I expect way more out of you both. DO BETTER! There is no OTH without Haley and her music!!”
If you ask me, Netflix could replace some characters with different actors and say they aged gracefully, or something like that.
