The Diplomat Season 2 Won’t Have a Significant Time Jump

The Diplomat spoilers, news, and updates tease where the show will pick up when the next season debuts. Avid viewers wonder whether Season 2 will kick off with a time jump.

The first season of The Diplomat concluded with emissary Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) and foreign secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi) in danger after discovering the plot behind the British aircraft carrier attack.

The Diplomat Spoilers: Season 2 Will Pick Up Right Where Season 1 Left Off

TVLine reports that in the upcoming second season, set to air in 2024, the situation will still be ongoing. Sources told TVLine that The Diplomat “will pick up right away,” just three weeks past the ending of Season 1.

The Diplomat is a political dramedy that immediately shot to No. 1 on Netflix’s top 10 list just 10 days after the show dropped on the streaming giant last April. Netflix immediately renewed the show for Season 2.

The Diplomat Season 2 Won’t Have a Significant Time Jump

“Fans around the world are loving every minute of The Diplomat’s gripping and propulsive drama, and embracing Keri’s powerful performance. After that jaw-dropping cliffhanger, we can’t wait for them to see what the amazing visionary team of [series creator] Debora Cahn, [and fellow EPs] Janice Williams, Alex Graves and Keri have in store for Season 2,” said Jinny Howe, VP of Drama Series at Netflix.

What Is the Diplomat All About?

The Diplomat, created by Debora Cahn (The West Wing, Homeland), follows the story of Kate Wyler, the new US Ambassador to the United Kingdom, although she was originally meant to be sent to Afghanistan due to her expertise in crisis zones.

However, Kate now finds herself in a different kind of crisis as she navigates international tensions, builds alliances, and adjusts to the public eye while also trying to maintain her relationship with her husband, fellow diplomat Hal Wyler.

This contemporary political drama explores the complexities and hardships of long-term relationships between countries and individuals as high-stakes situations arise.

Aside from Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell, The Diplomat also stars David Gyasi (as Austin Dennison), Ali Ahn (as Eidra Park), Rory Kinnear (as Nicol Trowbridge), Ato Essandoh (as Stuart Heyford), Nana Mensah (as Billie Appiah), Celia Imrie (as Margaret Roylin), and Michael McKean (as President William Rayburn).

Details of The Diplomat Season 2 are still kept under wrap and the team might still be working on them since the show was only renewed in May. Hopefully, we’ll still see all of these characters in the upcoming season.
