What The Menéndez Brothers Family Has Said About Hopes For Their Possible Release

The Menéndez brothers have spent a total of 34 years in prison, and luckily, there’s talks of a possible resentencing if the court takes into account the new evidence provided by their legal team.

However, despite the high hopes – ‘The Monster’s’ Ryan Murphy believes they’ll be out of there by Christmas – the family is still despairing of the outcome. There’s just been too many years of failed hopes for them to actually hold out hope for this. Nevertheless, this didn’t keep them from hoping, just so you know.

Lyle And Erik Menéndez’s Family React To News Of The Brothers’ Appeal

“Drop everything. We need you,” was Anamaria Baralt’s call to the family after hearing from Lyle and Erik Menéndez’s lawyer and learning family members were needed to convene. Fyi, Baralt’s mother is Jose Menendez’s sister.

You can understand that after over three decades in prison, the excitement that family members will have regarding the chance of the brothers’ release will be palpable.

So of course, the family did their very best to convene in time to watch Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón speak about the case at the afternoon press conference.

“We didn’t know what he was going to say until we actually got there,” Baralt said, adding that a dozen family members took flights from around the country to be there. “We just wanted to make sure the world knew just how much support they have.”

It’s delightful to see that the brothers have got the support of family and fans, including high profile figures like Kim Kardashian and Cooper Koch, who want to see them released. This amount of goodwill may yet contribute to their freedom.

Speaking on this, Baralt said, “Even though we have the family together, we never forget that Lyle and Erik aren’t with us,” Baralt adds. “So we’re all just really looking forward to that day of being together again. It’s going to be our dream come true.”

District Attorney George Gascón Wants A Resentencing For the Brothers

Speaking to attendees, which include several of the Menéndez brothers’ family, Gascón revealed that he would push for the brothers to be resentenced to 50 years to life.

Since they were “youthful offenders,” they would no doubt be eligible to immediate parole, despite murdering their parents. In their defense, they argued they did it because their father threatened to kill them after they confronted him about sexually assaulting them as children.

Gascón said he believes the brothers would reintegrate nicely into the society, since they’ve worked so hard to improve the lives of others in prison. It also won’t be in the interest of “justice” to keep them behind bars for longer.
