Word on the street these days is that after over three decades in prison, the Menéndez brothers may be walking out as free men before the end of this year. A newly discovered evidence has given the brothers and their legal team new hope. However, supposing they do walk out of prison, what kind of people will they be walking out as?
What Will Happen To the Menéndez Brothers’ Multi-million Dollar Inheritance?
In 1996, Lyle and Erik Menéndez were sentenced to life in prison for the murders of their parents. At the time, the jury was convinced that the primary motive was to lay their hands on their father’s vast wealth.
Before they were arrested for the first time, the brothers had spent nearly a million dollars for travel, businesses and pleasure. However, the big cake was the amount they spent on attorneys trying to avoid jail time once the court case had kicked in. According to some reports, the brothers had already spent around $5 million on legal fees by 1994.
When the brothers were later found guilty of murdering their parents, they lost access to the estate due to California’s “Slayer Statue” preventing a perpetrator from benefiting from a victim’s estate.
This means that the brothers might likely be walking out of prison with close to a $0 net worth. The thing is, this evaluation may not reflective of the truth since the brothers have been part of doscumentaries and books highlighting their tragic case.
Apart from Ryan Murphy‘s ‘Monsters’ series on Netflix, the brothers are also working with the streaming giant for a new documentary that will explore the untold stories from their case. So some Netflix moolah to chill with?
When Can the Menéndez Brothers Be Released?
I wouldn’t encourage anyone pathetic to Lyle and Erik’s situation to get their hopes up, as their chances of being released is one out of three possibilities. However, they have more in the way of being released than they’ve ever done in years.
So far, celebrities like Kim Kardashian and comedian Rosie O’Donnell are hopeful for their release.
“I told them then, “You’re going to get out of there.” They didn’t really believe me, but I believe that the wrong will be righted. They’re still reticent to believe it’s going to happen,” the former The View co-host O’Donnell told Variety in an interview.
Ryan Murphy, though his series was received in poor taste by the Menéndez family and fans alike, also shared his hopes for their release.
“We gave them their moment in the court of public opinion. Basically, we did give them a platform,” he said. “I think they can be out of prison by Christmas. I really believe that.”

Hollywood is not the decisive action in this case. Since neither parent is not around to speak on the subject how can you say they have a case that needs to be reopened because some people in Hollywood have visited or say they were abused so that justifies the murders. These representatives of Hollywood are not normal citizens with Lily white pasts themselves. Another example of Hollywood sticking their nose into something they know nothing about. Treat them as anyone else rather than special & see what happens. Everyone has known all along that OJ was guilty of murder but he was set free. Is that a fair, justified reason to accept the unacceptable? Other people have been in positions to end the lives of their tormentors but they don’t.
