Erik Menendez – The Conviction Still Took Two Trials
Not only did the case immediately get national attention, it took two trials before Lyle and Erik were convicted of first degree murder. The first trial ended in a mistrial while the second resulted in both of them receiving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. The boys have still remained a subject that intrigues the public and has lead to several media portrayals.
Not only are they featured in Monsters, but also on the Neflix podcast You Can’t Make This Up.
The Menendez brothers still make headlines today with people like Kim Kardashian lobbying for their release. “n a personal essay published by NBC News, Kim Kardashian questioned the fairness of their trials and argued that the brothers deserve a chance at freedom nearly 35 years after their conviction.”
Should the brothers be released after all this time? Could they turn around and commit a similar crime if they were to be paroled?
