Jim Dornan, One Of Ireland’s Leading Obstetricians, Has Died Of Coronavirus

It was a shocking announcement when the news of Jim Dornan’s death was made public. Only recently was he announced to be suffering from the COVID and was getting treatment at a hospital. Plenty of people who knew him and his novel works in medicine flooded social media to wish him a speedy and complete recovery. So anyone can imagine how sad the news of the renowned doctor’s death must have been for some people, especially his close family and friends.

On March 15, The Northern Ireland Pancreatic Center, where Jim served as President, announced his death on their social media pages, explaining that Jim died that same day in the United Arab Emirates

“It is with great sadness that NIPANC has heard of the death of Professor Jim Dornan, who died in the UAE on 15 March. Jim, who was the President of NIPANC, The Northern Ireland pancreatic cancer charity, lived a life of public service,” the Northern Ireland Pancreatic Cancer Center wrote.

“He was internationally renowned as a world-class obstetrician and gynecologist. His relationship with NIPANC was founded on his own family’s experience with this terrible cancer, with the tragic death of his first wife, Lorna, more than twenty years ago,” they continued “Our thoughts and prayer go out to His family, Samina, Liesa, Jessica and Jamie at this difficult time.”

Jim had previously been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Jim Dornan – His Works In Life

Jim Dornan previously served as chair of Health and Life Sciences at Ulster University. As a gynecologist and Obstetrician, he traveled and lectured both nationally and internationally and was strongly involved in charity organizations.

He also held the chair in Fetal Medicine at Queen’s University, Belfast.

Another interesting fact about the old doctor was that he once played a policeman in a movie where his only son Jamie starred as a serial killer. Jamie, the star of Robin Hood, has said that his father has always been supportive of all his roles but refrained from helping him or giving him advice on the Supernatural thriller, The 9th Life of Louis Drax.

He’d influenced a lot of people through his extensive works and his book An Everyday Miracle, and a lot of people shared the experiences they had with him or how his works influenced them. Prayers were also offered to his family.

“Such a sad and awful news to give today. Jamie’s father, Jim Dornan, passed away after having suffered of Covid-19. Our prayers go to the whole Dornan family during this terrible time. #JamieDornan,” a fan posted on Twitter.

He is survived by his second wife Samina and his 3 children, Liesa, Jessica and Jamie, all of whom he had from his first wife.

None of them have however spoken out publicly about their recent loss, but people want them to know that they’re not alone in missing the iconic man who died at the age of 73, after a brief battle with Coronavirus.
