Kelly Clarkson Files for Divorce From Her Husband Brandon Blackstock After Almost 7 Years of Marriage

American Idol champion and talk show host Kelly Clarkson is calling a timeout on her marriage to Brandon Blackstock, who she wed in October 2013. According to documents obtained Thursday by People, the singer has filed divorce papers citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the end of the union.

She filed the paperwork in Los Angeles on June 4. The couple has two children together, daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander.

Clarkson met Blackstock, a music manager, at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2006 and they became engaged in December 2012. Blackstock also has a son Seth, and a daughter Savannah, from a previous marriage.

The Blast was the first to report news of the divorce and representatives for Clarkson did not immediately respond to People’s request for comment.

Clarkson has been candid about the couple’s relationship, in particular their love life, from the beginning. She once stated that she never felt a strong sexual attraction to anyone prior to Blackstock.

In a 2017 SiriusXM interview, she said, “This isn’t a downer to anybody I dated before him, but I’m just going to be real: I never felt like, honestly, sexually attracted to anybody before him.”

“And I’m not downing my exes, you know, everybody’s different. But there was something about him.”
Clarkson added on to say with characteristic bluntness, “I honestly thought I was asexual — I’d never been turned on like that in my whole life. I was like, ‘Oh that’s that feeling … okay!’”

In 2017 Clarkson also told Redbook this about Blackstock, “To keep it family appropriate, let’s say we’re just a lot more active than other couples. I’m a person who loves change. He loves spontaneity. Having a set time or place [to have sex] would be boring to us.”

Going on further, she stated, “When I met Brandon, I wasn’t looking for a friend. I have a lot of great friends! I was looking for a lover. I had never found someone I was truly passionate about, who I wanted to stay in bed with all day. The fact that I did, well…I was going to latch on and take advantage of that.”

Given her effusive praise in the past, what went wrong? That’s something that only Kelly and Brandon know, but given her past history, Clarkson may clue the rest of us in sooner rather than later.
