As the first Olympics not to be held in a stadium, the French people had the opportunity to put their beautiful country and culture on display. But they may have taken the phrase ‘entertaining the audience’ too far.
We all loved that Celine Dion and Lady Gaga performed at the ceremony, even if they were singing in French, but Christians were not amused when it seemed the French made a mockery of ‘The Last Supper.’
How The Paris Olympics Lost One of Their Sponsors With Their Blasphemous Art
One is not amused, as they say. On Friday, while France lit up the sky and best believe it, the Seine river, to entertain the millions of spectators around the world, they also stepped on some toes by displaying a blasphemous art that appeared to mock ‘The Last Supper.’
For this reason, Mississippi-based telecommunications and technology company C Spire shared that they had pulled out their advertising dollars from the games.
“We were shocked by the mockery of the Last Supper during the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics,” the company posted. “C Spire will be pulling our advertising from the Olympics.”
This move was praised by Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves. “I am proud to see the private sector in Mississippi put their foot down,” the Republican wrote on X. “God will not be mocked. C Spire drew a common-sense, appropriate line.”
The opening ceremony featured drag queens strutting up and down a runway, but the part that seemed to cause offense, was when these drag queens positioned themselves in a configuration that was reminiscent of Jesus Christ and his apostles. This drew criticisms of the ceremony from many around the world.
A lot of people took to the internet to share their anger over “the blasphemy.”
“There are over 2 billion Christians around the world and many love to watch the games,” the user wrote. “Why would you make fun and open with that?”
Needless to say, the director of the ceremony has apologized for this and revealed that his meaning was not to cause offense. One quick question: what was his meaning then if he didn’t mean to offend?
