Jeffrey opened up about the show and his expectations during The Walking Dead’s panel at San Diego Comic Con according to Comicbook.com. He says that there was a whole story that Robert wrote that he was very excited to play, but unfortunately, it never panned out.
He said, “Sometimes, you don’t know what’s going to happen. It’s what keeps us on our toes. I think that relationship brought out something in both characters that we don’t see in any other way. Those character traits that Carl brought out in Negan, I hope they’re brought out some other way because I think that [contributed] a lot in humanizing Negan.”
If that weren’t enough, Jeffrey also said that he would “forever be disappointed” that he never had the opportunity to give some life to Negan and Carl on the small screen.
He wrote on Instagram back in February, “Honestly… a huge reason I wanted so badly to join this band of misfits… was because I was such a fan of the Negan Carl relationship in the comics. That storyline was one of my favorites, as I know it was one of yours. I’ll forever be [disappointed] we only scratched the surface of what could have been.”
