If you find the USA Gymnastics campaigning at the top of their voices that Jordan Chiles deserves to keep her bronze medal, don’t be alarmed. They have video evidence.
USA Gymnastics Shares Statement Defending Jordan Chiles After IOC Demands Her To Return Her Bronze Medal
The internet is not happy that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has requested Chiles to return her third place bronze, following Romania’s Olympic Committee protest.
The bone of contention is that Chiles’ petition, which was made by coach Cecile Landi, was submitted four seconds too late, leading to Chiles’ third-place score not being posted in time.
Following this, the USA Gymnastics has written a formal letter and submitted video evidence to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
“USA Gymnastics on Sunday formally submitted a letter and video evidence to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, conclusively establishing that Head Coach Cecile Landi’s request to file an inquiry was submitted 47 seconds after the publishing of the score, within the 1-minute deadline required by FIG rule,” the federation said in a statement shared with PEOPLE on Aug. 11.
Per the Aug. 11 statement, the letter sent to the the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) insists that the “ruling be revised and Chiles’ bronze-medal score of 13.766 reinstated.”
After her performance, Chiles, 23, was given a score of 13.666 in the women’s floor exercise final on Aug. 5, putting her in fifth place.
However, her coach filed a request claiming that the judges have inaccurately accessed her difficulty level, which they agreed, amending her core to 13.766.
This then put Chiles ahead of Romanian gymnasts Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, who both finished with a score of 13.700.
In light of these controversies, USA Gymnastics has reportedly submitted “time-stamped, video evidence” to the CAS that “shows Landi first stated her request to file an inquiry at the inquiry table 47 seconds after the score is posted, followed by a second statement 55 seconds after the score was originally posted.”
“The basis for the CAS ruling on Friday striking down the inquiry was that ‘The inquiry submitted on behalf of Ms. Jordan Chiles in the Final of the women’s floor exercise was raised after the conclusion of the one-minute deadline provided by article 8.5 of the 2024 FIG Technical Regulations and is determined to be without effect,’ “ USA Gymnastics continued.
Jordan Chiles’ – Mother Defends Daughter From Online Trolls Following IOC’s Demand
As always, people have just got to share their filthy opinions online, regardless of how hurtful they may be.
Since the news surfaced, Chiles’ family has had to defend the gymnast several times against the online hate.
Earlier this week, her mother Gina Chiles called out the “racist” comments her daughter has been receiving following the whole debacle.
“The racist disgusting comments are still happening in 2024. I’m tired of people who say it no longer exists,” she wrote on social media. “My daughter is a highly decorated Olympian with the biggest heart and a level of sportsmanship that is unmatched…and she’s being called disgusting things.”
