Tammy Slaton has lost 300 pounds since her first appearance in 1000-Lb Sisters in January 2020. But that weight loss success comes with new challenges. And because Tammy now struggles with excess skin, she needs “skin removal” treatments, said a plastic surgeon. But that surgery means Slaton cannot gain any weight, according to the Sun.

After undergoing gastric bypass surgery in June, Tammy showed off her weight loss on social media. The 36-year-old went from 717 pounds to 400 pounds. And fans did applaud the 1000-Lb Sisters star’s weight loss. But some also asked about her saggy excess skin.

For instance, one fan asked, “What’s wrong with her neck? Is it something medical or excess loose skin due to weight loss?” However, others recognized Tammy’s need for surgery. And one shared, “It’s been amazing seeing your consistency within your health journey. Soon enough you’ll be approved for skin removal and just know we are all rooting for you! Proud of you!”

Weight loss surgery patients often experience loose skin. And plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Westreich discussed that situation. “After the initial extreme weight loss, skin presents underneath the chin as seen in Tammy’s Instagram photos.” Because the 1000-Lb Sisters star experienced such “extreme weight loss,” her skin “can’t shrink enough,” added the physician.

And Dr. Westreich compared Tammy’s situation to old clothes. “Obviously your clothes from when you were heavier will hang off your body,” he pointed out. “And skin is no different. Skin can shrink,” according to the plastic surgeon. But not as much as Tammy needs. 

“If you put your clothes in the dryer and shrink them, they’ll only shrink so much and can be still too big. Most patients like Tammy would probably get a lot of issues with the arms and the lower abdomen,” added Dr. Westreich. As a result, Tammy would benefit from either a face lift or a neck lift. The plastic surgeon also thinks the 1000-Lb Sisters star could use skin-tightening procedures above her knees and on her stomach. And he also recommended skin-tightening for her arms.

But all that surgery comes with a shockingly high price tag of $85,000. And Dr. Westreich noted that the $85,000 would represent wasted money if Tammy later gains back weight. “If she gains weight again after any skin surgeries, the skin will stretch again,” said the plastic surgeon. “And she’ll be back to where she started.”
