Tammy Slaton looks back at her weight history in 1000-Lb Sisters spoilers. And the reality TV star, 37, says via People that her weight wars actually began as a baby.
As a result, Tammy admits that she “always” faced weight problems. And she explained that after her birth at 9 lbs. 10 oz., she “just kept gaining.” But both she and her sister Amy believe that genetics contributed to their obesity.
“Our whole family’s big,” reveals Amy. However, as children, the 1000-Lb Sisters star recalled their mother Darlene leaving them alone while she worked three jobs to support the family.
“Mom was always at work,” noted Amy. And so as kids, the two sisters needed to “learn how to cook and stuff for ourselves.” But the 36-year-old pointed out, “And at 10 and 11 you really couldn’t prepare healthy food and stuff.”
As a result, Tammy calls the microwave the children’s “best friend. Ramen noodles, bowls of soup, things that were quick and easy — stuff that adds on carbs.” Amy and Tammy have three older siblings: Chris, Misty and Amanda. But the two youngest felt bullied because of their weight in their childhood in Kentucky.

And Amy recalled that the two sisters faced “bullies, fat comments, all that.” However, the sisters’ pain grew when their grandmother, who helped support the girls, died. And Tammy recalled, “[We] took it hard and turned to food for comfort.” And Amy agreed, admitting that she “started eating my feelings.”
But as their weight gain continued, their health problems mounted. For instance, Tammy struggled to walk. And Amy suffered from diabetes, with her weight resulting in challenges in becoming pregnant.
But then a TLC producer invited the sisters to become the stars of 1000-Lb Sisters. And they took the opportunity. However, Amy shared that both she and Tammy “were already trying to lose weight before the show even got a hold of us, so it was like the perfect opportunity.”
1000-Lb Sisters Spoilers – No Regrets!
And after reaching her highest weight at 406 lbs, Amy qualified for surgery in 2019. She now weighs 230 lbs. But Tammy hit her high point on the scale at 725 lbs. However, since her surgery in July 2022, Tammy weighs 285 lbs.
And despite occasional fat-shaming, the sisters don’t regret appearing on the show. Because their weight loss changed their lives, they feel thrilled at the results. And Tammy hopes to inspire others. “By putting our stories out there, we’re helping others see they can lose weight too. They’re not alone,” she pointed out. “I’ve done more in the last nine months than I’ve ever done in my life. I have my life back.”
