ABC Fans Slam Golden Bachelorette Execs Over Joan Vassos’ Husband

ABC fans are shocked because the Golden Bachelorette execs didn’t seem to grasp that sleuths would dig into Joan Vassos and her husband, John Vassos’ past. His criminal past has been common knowledge for a while, but ABC fans are angry because the show painted him as a saint. So, they become more vocal now. 

Joan Vassos Sets High Standards For Her Contestants 

So far, blogs and tabloids avoided talking about John Vassos out of respect for Joan and her family. But, it doesn’t take much to annoy Bachelor Nation fans, and now their patience has been tested. Notably, people cried over the death of the Golden Bachelorette’s husband, but unfortunately, he was not the perfect person the show made him out to be. However, Joan seemed to expect high standards from her contestants. 

Other reality TV stars went to jail, and Jen Shah is one of them. But Bravo never tried to hide her crimes. The same goes for Teresa and Joe Giudice. So, people respected that they came along with warts and all. But, glossing over John, the husband of Joan Vassos seemed plain silly in the opinion of ABC viewers. After all, they were always going to find out about his mail fraud and conspiracy crimes. 

John Vassos Pleaded Guilty To White Collar Crimes – Fans Are Angry

The crimes of John Vassos have been public knowledge for a while. But on the Golden  Bachelorette, nothing was mentioned about him pleading guilty to “one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, one count of tax fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud,” per Justice. gov.

Very basically, someone named Keith Forney engaged in a scheme with John Vassos to supply “copier maintenance and repair services” for the Maryland Administrative Office of the Courts. However, a percentage of the work had to be allocated to a Minority Business Enterprise. Anyway, it didn’t happen and when he died from cancer, the husband of Joan Vassos, John was awaiting sentencing. Because of the whitewashing, ABC fans feel angry. 

Golden Bachelorette Fans Express Disappointment Over Joan Vassos

On Reddit this weekend, Golden Bachelorette fan u/New_Swordfish8621shared the Justice. gov news and wrote:

John Vassos? THE John Vassos?Anyone able to look into things further and confirm it’s Joan’s John they mention in paragraph 5?

Well, several people had already posted about the crimes by the husband of Joan Vassos in the past. So, in the replies, u/DonutMinceWordz wrote, “I brought this up here over a month ago…He was convicted …and was set to be sentenced when he got sick….Joan’s husband died before he could be sentenced…” In the comments, fans expressed their anger with ABC.

In the discussion that followed, one fan wrote, “[The execs] could have downplayed her late husband given his history, or even openly shared that he pled guilty to several financial crimes and that was a really hard period for joan and her family to get through. but instead, they doubled down on portraying him as a perfect angel and husband…”

• This is what I don’t fully understand [about] these shows… things like this are going to come out. It’s 2024, people are curious, we have the internet at our hands, and it’s inevitable….I think transparency would make things like this way less salacious.
• I know this shouldn’t surprise me because they’ve made plenty of disastrous casting choices before but I’m very surprised that they would go with a lead who could easily have this story tied to them….But it’s just messy… again. It’s always messy, it’s always something. It’s making the show impossible to enjoy.
