Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie were together from the start of the ABC reboot. They have some part in what made the singing competition so successful.
Host Ryan Seacrest also helped the show. But it looks like the fans tuned in more for the judges. The future is also unclear for Luke and Lionel. He told Billboard that the head honchos have been “tightlipped” regarding their future on the show.
They might consider having an all-new judges panel. ABC is still hunting for the next celebrity to take Katy Perry’s place. But with the way things have been looking lately, the executives might want to revamp the entire judge lineup.
Luke Bryan admits that things have gotten “interesting” lately. “We currently haven’t heard what the story is on who’s coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back,” he shared.
Could Katy Perry Be To Blame?
Is Katy Perry responsible for what’s happening to the show? Producers have been scrambling to find a suitable replacement.
They’ve been in talks with everyone, including Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, and Taylor Swift. However, they might want to attract new fans to the long-running series.
“I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do and we’re just kind of sitting back and waiting until they decide,” Luke Bryan told Billboard.

It depends on who they choose for judges whether or not I continue to watch Idol or not! If it’s someone I don’t like or know, I’m OUT!! I really like Seacrest but just him on there is not going to be enough to make me continue to watch!
Glad to see Katy go. She has always been rude to Lionel Richie.

I don’t believe that I would. Because I get tired of some of the people they are talking about with who may be replacing Katy Perry.
Been watching this show since it started. We’ve enjoyed the show immensely with Luke and Lionel as judges. Katie…well, she’s Katie. She’s silly, tacky, and does not offer the same level of talent as the two men, especially Lionel, who brings such a wealth of experience to the show. We hope American Idol will continue with him and Luke. They’ll check the boxes to hire the next judge.
I think it would be a mistake to let Linole and Luke go just get a replacement for Katie and be done with all this drama.
It’s refreshing to see a new lineup of judges every few years, so I think they should replace all three. Mikey Cyrus is a good choice for many reasons, but I’d also like to see Lady Gaga as a judge.

No! Luke, Lionel, and Katy make the show. To take away one judge is hurtful, to take away all 3 will completely change the direction of the show and fan base.

We would be very said if Lionel and Luke were not renewed. American Idol is so much better with both of them. We skipped years in the past, but not since they have been judges. We appreciate how they treat the contestants. We are sorry Katy Perry will be gone.
Yes of course I’ll still watch no matter who the judges are because ultimately it’s not about them it’s about the contestants and the pleasure of just maybe seeing the beginning of the next great singer
