Below Deck Mediterranean – Alleged Scam

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Captain Sandy Yawn was a victim of an elaborate scam. Sandy and Leah purchased a property in Florida.

They said they spent most of their money on the Nocatee property located in St. Johns County. The contractor named Pineapple Corporation took their money and bailed on them.

The couple tried to recoup the costs of the property. The incident in a loss of $1.6 million. They had to recover half of that amount to complete their home.

Sandy noted there were “other victims” involved in the alleged scam. News 4 Jax showed up at the business “near Jacksonville Beach and found no one there and nothing inside.”

Either the company shut down or never fully operated. There has been a new development in the alleged scam. The owner of Pineapple Corporation was arrested on Thursday, February 22.

Spencer Calvert was “arrested and charged with construction funds, grand larceny, and organized scheme to defraud,” says the St. John County Sheriff’s Office.”

Calvert is the owner of Pineapple Corporation. He contracted with customers to build their homes. Once he received the money, he abandoned the projects. It’s unclear how many customers were involved in this alleged scheme.

Captain Sandy Yawn released a statement about this alleged scam. On Friday, February 23, she spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the arrest. She credited the detective for tracking down the scammer.

“We have a bada** detective John McGuire working non-stop. This is just the beginning and justice has and will continue to be served…” Captain Sandy Yawn said. “We just want to enjoy our lives after this nightmare. We are working hard to earn money to finish and now have to get a construction loan.

Leah and Sandy aren’t working with another contractor. They would rather complete the home renovations themselves. The home won’t be finished in time for their wedding. She predicts a June 2024 date of completion. Sandy and Leah chose their wedding date for this month.
