Carrie Underwood Relates To Young Star’s Story, Says “I’m Not Okay”

Carrie Underwood has come home to the show that kickstarted her singing career and made her the global phenomenon that she is today. Having gotten her start on the singing competition, she promises to do her best to nurture, encourage and make sure that young stars are discovered.

Her best promise? “I think I can be honest and constructive, but still kind.” Yeah, I guess that’s what we need more in this world. People who can offer constructive criticism without it feeling like they’re tearing you down one hurtful word at a time.

The 31-year-old “Cry Pretty” singer understands what it’s like to put yourself and your dreams out there for someone else to criticize. “And I think that’s the whole point, because people are coming in and it’s dreams. You’re part of somebody’s story from that moment on.”

E! News released a first peek at the season 23 of the ABC singing competition and already, we can tell that Underwood is out to make good on her promise.

During the auditions, a contestant got the singer to ugly cry by telling an emotional story. “My grandparents raised me from the moment I turned 2,” the hopeful said, adding, “She put everything she had in me all these years.”

Discovering that Underwood was blowing her nose and trying to keep her emotions in check, Bryan asked, “You okay over there?” Teary-eyed, Underwood plainly replied, “I’m not.” Bryan then attempts to comfort her with a hug. Awwww.

Apart from his touching story, his vocal chops clearly impressed all three of the judges, because they gave him the approval to go to New York.

Apart from contestant-make-Carrie-Underwood-cry, there’s also many others who are vying for the spotlight and the glory.

“I’ve wanted this since I was a little kid,” one said, while another adds, “I’m ready for my life to change.”

As Lionel Richie finely tells us, “There are surprises in every person.”
