Grayson Chrisley, the 17-year-old son of Julie and Todd Chrisley, recently talked about how he is coping with his parents’ incarceration. He sat down to chat with his sister Savannah during her “Unlocked” podcast.
Chrisley Knows Best News – The Kids Are Struggling
Grayson states during the podcast that he feels as if his parents’ jail sentence is “worse” than if they died. To him, it’s because the two are “here” but they aren’t “here,” and it’s just wasted time. Savannah chimed into her brother’s comments by saying the two are “forced” to have closure.
His sister also asked him if he could try and see it from another perspective: at least his parents are still alive, and he can do things like say, ‘I love you’ and hug them. Grayson replied by acknowledging that he can do all that, but with a time limit. Savannah notes that the situation must be hard for the young man to process.
At the age of 25, Savannah filed to become Grayson’s primary guardian along with her niece Chloe, who is 10 years old, while her parents serve time for federal tax fraud. Mom Julie is serving a seven-year sentence in Lexington, Kentucky, while dad Todd has a 12-year sentence in Pensacola, Florida.
Chrisley Knows Best News: Parents Have Advised Grayson To “Live His Life”
During the podcast, Grayson also opens up about his efforts to visit each parent every weekend; however, it’s been challenging. The young man reveals that it’s not that he doesn’t want to go, but he is only 17 and his parents have encouraged him to “live his life”. With that being said, he does feel bad when he doesn’t go to visit, even though they both do understand.
Savannah states that she feels “renewed” after seeing her parents, but Grayson notes that he’ll be good Saturday, but then Sunday, it “hits him”. Then, things are bad from Sunday to Thursday, and then he goes on Friday for visits, only for the cycle to pop back up by the time Saturday hits.
Chrisley Knows Best News – Savannah’s Updates
Savannah has been providing updates on how Todd and Julie are doing in jail, plus, how her family is coping with things during this hard time. In May, she revealed that her parents hadn’t spoken to each other since their prison terms began. The two have been married for three decades now.
Savannah also stated her mom recently gave her about 30 to 40 letters during a visit. The notes contain her mother’s daily accounts of jail life and how much she misses her husband.

It would definitely be hard for a 17 year old to process the fact that their parents aren’t going to be around for years. So, in that light, I think Grayson needs some help getting through this such as counseling. It can help…I have been through counseling alot in my life, so I personally know!
I feel for Grayson. These teen years are difficult without having your parents in prison.
