Reality TV gossip suggests that Dr. Younan Nowzaradan (AKA) Dr. Now, from My 600-Lb Life disappeared mysteriously from television.
Well, folks can’t get enough of weight-loss stories, so we separated fact from social media fiction. Read on for more details.
Fans Miss Dr. Now On TLC
Affectionately loved for his sometimes brutal manner of speaking, many folks miss seeing Dr. Now on TLC. Over the years, for some inexplicable reason, the sharp-tongued bariatric surgeon was reported as dead.

However all of these instances proved to be fake clickbait articles. Per Parade, one that happened a few while back found a sharp response from the star of My 600-Lb Life. Back then, the outlet cited him as saying:
Fake stories spread fast, but the truth always wins! I am alive and continuing to care for patient[s] every day.
Is He Dead Or Retired?
Actually, fake death posts about Dr. Now popped up more times than anyone can count. But is he still alive? After all, it seems there hasn’t been an announcement about a renewal by TLC and the last season ended in April of 2025.
Did the grumpy doc in his 80s with a desire to save people retire? Probaly not. If you don’t know, Dr. Now appeared on Lifetime’s The 6000 lb Diaries with Dr. Now. It aired Season 1 last year.
Still Caring In His Own Way
There, you’ll still find him snarkily reminding his patients about discipline and structured portion sizes. What are the chances of a return to TLC?
Actually, it seems a bit up in the air because we couldn’t find an official renewal notice. But TLC fans also watched Dangerously Obese with Dr. Charles Procter.
Of course, those who followed the story of Amy and Tammy Slaton on 1000-Lb Sisters know Dr. Procter from that show.
Did Legal Drama Affect His Rep?
Some TLC fans suspected that legal drama brought career troubles for Dr. Younan Nowzaradan. And admittedly, over the years several lawsuits involving the production eventually ended in dismissals.
Naturally, those folks who rooted for Dr. Now loved that he remains active as a surgeon dispensing sometimes unwelcome advice.
To this day he’s still recognized for his strict post-op rules, not to mention his engaging book called Last Chance to Live.
Fans React To Updates
When @spotlightonstar shared an update last year, many people responded in the comments. One of them penned, “Dr. Now saved many lives. God bless him. He’s a great man.”
Here are a few other responses from the discussion area:
