Gerry Turner from The Golden Bachelor was quiet for a long time, but he recently opened up about his life since he ditched Theresa Nist three months after they tied the knot. Among other things, he talked about his cancer.

The Cancer Is Not Curable

Last December, Bachelor Nation learned that Gerry was diagnosed with Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia, a type of bone cancer. Fans know he enjoys playing games like pickleball, but after injuring himself, follow-up doctor visits revealed an issue. It turned out to be a rare form of cancer, and there is currently no cure.

While it’s not curable, the cancer can be managed and it is quite slow-growing. Recently, when the former Golden Bachelor appeared with Joe and Serena on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, he talked about dating a new woman, and he also gave a cancer update.

During his chat, the older man, now 73, told Joe and Serena that his cancer isn’t keeping him awake with fear at night. In fact, he has a rather different take on life since the diagnosis. He said, in part:

From the time I got this diagnosis, it’s a privilege to live like you’re dying. I don’t turn down anything. I feel like I’m more open to emotions. I’m more open to experiences. The person I’m dating will say, ‘Do you want to go do…’” And before she even gets out the rest of the sentence, I will say yes. So I’m in on everything.

Theresa’s ex also talked about how he might have less time to live, so he wants to pack everything into the time that he has. He seems upbeat, because he actually called his cancer an “exciting” time.

Rumors Of His Death

Doctors talk about doing treatment every three months or so once he turns 75. And that makes him feel a bit more confident that he still has a future. That’s good news, because briefly, many ABC fans thought that he had passed away. However, the news seemed to be a hoax, and Gerry Turner is still alive.

Sadly, though, his father Everett passed away in January. While Gerry Turner did not speak about that on the podcast, the news was confirmed via an obituary. Part of Everett’s will was also made public, and Gerry took the reins as the executor of his dad’s estate.

Gerry Turner started talking about his cancer at the 17:54 marker in the video below:
