Jennifer Lopez joined as judge of American Idol in 2011. She took the opportunity because she wanted to come across as down-to-earth. By this time, she had a bad reputation for being a diva. When Simon Cowell exited the singing competition, Jennifer stepped in to replace him.

Her career hit a lull at that point. She felt it was a good idea to pivot her career. In 2019, Jennifer shared her reason behind joining American Idol. She admitted that she didn’t have many opportunities during that time.

“I had the kids and wasn’t being offered a whole bunch of stuff,” Jennifer Lopez bluntly told Variety. “I really concentrated on my marriage. I was going around with Marc.”

At the time, Jennifer was married to Marc Anthony. The couple shares two kids. She was surprised that her appearance on American Idol rehabbed her image and career. Jennifer Lopez was seen as down-to-earth and normal.

“It was like, Oh! That’s all I had to do this whole time was to be myself? Although it was a competition, it was a reality show and I have never done one,” Jennifer told Vogue. “Up until then we only had what the media was telling you about me. I loved meeting the kids because I so identified with their dreams — I just loved it.”

Jennifer Lopez was no longer portrayed as a diva. She was grateful for that opportunity to share her real self with the world. It could be just what she needs to rejuvenate her career once again.

“A return from the past is on the cards,” an insider told DailyMail.com. “J.Lo will be asked to come back. When people come back, things work… people like nostalgia, and people like Jen. It would be a big get to get her back.”
