Julie Chrisley’s Case Goes Back To Lower Court For Re-sentencing For This Reason

Reality television star Julie Chrisley, who first rose to fame starring in the popular show ‘Chrisley Knows Best,’ has reached a significant point in her appeal after she and husband Todd were convicted of fraud in 2022. The couple were accused of conspiring to defraud community banks out of more than $30 million in fraudulent loans.

Add this to the count of tax evasion and you might understand why the couple got several years under their belt. However, an appeals court recently vacated Julie’s fraud sentence, ordering a re-sentencing.

What Does the Appeal Court’s Judgement Mean For Julie Chrisley?

Even though Julie’s served over a year of her sentence in a Kentucky facility, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals vacated Julie Chrisley’s sentence, even though it upheld Todd Chrisley’s and their accountant, Peter Tarantino’s.

Julie Chrisley's Case Goes Back To Lower Court For Re-sentencing For This Reason

The reason for this was that the court could not independently find evidence to hold her accountable for losses incurred before 2007. This does not mean that there weren’t sufficient evidence tying her to fraud in the years after 2007.

The appeals panel wrote, “We must vacate Julie’s sentence so the district court can address the narrow issue of what the proper loss amount attributable to Julie is” so that her sentence can be re-calculated.

This means that her case will go to the lower court for re-sentencing.

When a person’s case is “vacated,” it means the court believes there could be error in the person’s sentencing.

“We’re pleased that the Court agreed that Julie’s sentence was improper, but we’re obviously disappointed that it rejected Todd’s appeal,” Alex Little, the acting counsel for the Chrisleys, said.

“With this step behind us, we can now challenge the couple’s convictions based on the illegal search that started the case. The family appreciates the continued support they’ve received throughout this process. And they’re hopeful for more good news in the future.”

Even though Julie’s not one to complain, Savannah once mentioned that the prison facility was not secure against poison snakes.
