Former Bachelorette lead, Katie Thurston, 34, went to her first chemotherapy class this week as she fights stage 4 cancer, and she became very emotional. That’s understandable, as she’s young, recently married, and her family never had a history of breast cancer.

Reality Hits The TV Star

People reported that Katie attended her class to learn about her chemotherapy treatment. The news emerged via her “Boobies Broadcast channel” that she runs on Instagram. Meanwhile, she also dropped the news on her main profile that she and Jeff Arcuri had tied the knot on March 22. However, her chemo update was sad.

Katie Thurston cried as she explained the impact that the class had on her. In part, the outlet cited her as saying:

Today I had ‘chemo class’ — and I sobbed the second it started…Sometimes I think ‘wtf is my life?’ But whether I like it or not, this is my life and I have to make the best of it…They say live like you’re dying, but now that I am, it’s easier said than done. And don’t get me wrong, every day, we are all closer to death…So cancer or not, I am blessed with today. So while I have sad moments or days, I want to do my best to cherish my time, cancer or not.

The ABC star also talked about how her husband, Jeff, wanted to spoil her with dinner. While she didn’t feel like going out, he at least helped her catch a “reality check.” She admitted that she can’t just lie” on the couch” and needs to “cherish” life while she has it.

The Diagnosis Seemed Unfair

Initially, the news that the Bachelor Nation star had cancer revealed Stage 3. On social media, she shared a somber photo, revealing she spent Valentine’s Day coordinating LA housing for upcoming cancer testing and treatment instead of celebrating.

She openly described her feelings as “despair, anger, sadness, [and] denial” before finding “strength” and feeling “ready,” drawing inspiration from other cancer fighters. For fans, it all seemed so unfair as she had her whole life ahead of her after her engagement in September.

The Stage 4 Diagnosis

Katie, who previously appeared on Matt James’ season of The Bachelor, returned to social media in late March and told her fans the bad news that her cancer might have spread. At the time, she noted that a “spot” on her “liver” was detected, and medical professionals believed it indicated that her cancer had spread. The word for that is metastatic cancer, and it can be harder to treat.

That meant that she would be treated for Stage 4 cancer. Sadly, fans can’t do anything to help the reality TV star. Katie Thurston might become inspirational for others who suffer from the illness, but all her fan base can do right now is cheer her on.
