One word, “Huge!” This is so huuuge, spread the news like gospel because it’s been sealed by the universe that 2023 is the year of love. Yep, you heard me.

It’s indeed official, for the first time ever, Love Island will be appearing on our screens twice, next year, with a winter and summer edition confirmed. Love Island will kick off in South Africa, and will return to Mallorca in the summer.

Paul Mortimer, director of reality commissioning and controller at ITV2, says, “Love Island has once again proved itself to be the nation’s favorite talking point across the summer, and we’re always blown away by the show’s ongoing impact and talkability amongst our younger audience. So, rather than just serving up a Summer of Love, we thought we’d make 2023 the Year of Love with two full series of the show.”

Love Island — What Some Couple Who Met At The Game Show Said

Of course, the show has served us with lots of content, there’s been envy, anger, and some other drama going on in the villa but, there’s no denying that some couples who met on the popular reality TV series have gone the distance, and owe their romance to the villa, the games and all the other charms of Love Island.

Chloe and Toby, who were runners-up in last year’s series and are still loved up to this day, have also weighed in: “Love Island was the BEST Summer of our lives! We both had so much fun.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity where you not only make friends for life but also potentially come out in a relationship too. The best best best experience ever!”

Faye and Teddy, one of the iconic couples still together after meeting on the 2021 series, have described the impact that Love Island has had on their lives.

“We know without Love Island our two worlds would never have met,” Faye has said. “We were put through tests which proved our connection was real and untouchable, showing the world that two opposites can attract. We were able to learn so much about each other in such a short period of time yet we are still learning but with an amazing unbreakable bond which we owe Love Island for.”

Love Island 2022 — Duty Of Care Protocols For The Islanders

In 2021, ITV outlined its duty of care protocols for contestants, following the suicides of two former Love Islanders: 26-year-old Mike Thalassitis in March 2019, and 32-year-old Sophie Gradon in June 2018, and the show’s original presenter: Caroline Flack, who died by suicide in 2020.

These protocols included access to a welfare team during the show and afterward, a minimum of eight therapy sessions offered to each contestant after leaving the show, and ITV keeping in touch with Islanders for 14 months after the series finishes.

However, last year the show was criticized for causing mental distress to the contestants: an episode, which consisted of Faye Winters verbally abusing Teddy Soares, made for extremely uncomfortable viewing. Moreover, in October 2021, a Panorama documentary revealed that “female reality TV contestants – including those on this year’s Love Island – are disproportionately targeted on social media, with abuse frequently rooted in misogyny and combined with racism” via BBC News.
