Honey Boo Boo And Pumpkin Reveal the Awful Way They Felt When Mama June Left Them To Battle Her Addiction Issues
Honey Boo Boo and Pumpkin were seen in tears in newest video from their reality show, “Mama June: Family Crisis,” as they discussed the way their mother’s absence affected their mental health and self esteem.
In the video, Shannon sat down with daughters Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird, Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson, and Jessica ‘Chubbs’ Shannon during the therapy session.
“She just left us. She left us when we really needed her,” Alana, 17, said of the time Mama June left to battle her addiction issues, adding that it was especially disorienting because she was just starting high school at the time.
Pumpkin, 23, emotionally added: “She left me too. I was 17 when I got Alana, I was a kid who just had a kid. I just got married. Its hard. Every time it’s like we weren’t good enough. You know, man was but we weren’t.”
Jessica, 26, followed Pumpkin’s confessional up by saying that Mama June’s unsteady presence in their lives has always been a source of particular hurt for her: “You’re here one minute, the next minute you’re not.”

Mama June, crying, declared she just wanted things to be the way they were. “We used to laugh and have fun, and I do miss that. I miss ya’ll,” she said. “I mean I know that it’s not going to be all hunky dory, living in the house. It will never be that way. But I don’t want it to be the silence, the dead silence… that’s not fun.”
When accused of trying to move too fast by her daughters, Mama June revealed she’s been sober for three years, with the therapist chiming in to say that her recovery needs “consistent effort.”
