It’s been a month since Real Housewives of Salt Lake City (RHOSLC) fans heard that the son of Mary Cosby, Robert Cosby Jr. passed away.
Well, the Bravo show stopped filming for a bit but now they resumed and yes, Mary will still be in Season 7. Read on for more details.
The Cast Spotted Talking About Robert
This week, TMZ reported that the cast gathered for a group shoot at one of the cast members’ homes. While Mary wasn’t there, the others talked about the death of Robert, and it all seemed rather emotional.
Picking up on that story, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Bravo didn’t pressure Mary to film. Out of respect for her obvious heartbreak, they didn’t plan on rushing her back in front of the camera.
Mary Will Film?
Nevertheless, they didn’t write her out of season 7, because apparently, she spoke about how work might keep her busy. And that could only help her with her state of mind. So, while you didn’t see her with the rest of the cast, it didn’t mean no return, but rather, a bit of breathing space to cope with her loss.
You might recall that Robert Cosby Jr. and his addiction problems came up on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City in the past. Mary, ever supportive, always believed her son could turn his life around.

Later, he ended up arrested after a clash with in-laws. But he came home, and the Bravo star seemed delighted. However, it soon turned to grief and pain when he passed away.
The Loss of Robert Hit hard
According to the Salt Lake Police, their officers responded to a call about an overdose. It happened early on a Monday morning, but EMTs couldn’t help the troubled young man. Then, Bravo paused RHOSLC production.
Naturally, Mary and her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., felt totally devastated. In their statement, they talked about how their son was “called home to the Lord.” But, they also talked about their faith and how they leaned into that to help them cope.
If nothing else, they might take some comfort from knowing that in death, Robert Cosby Jr. managed to bring more awareness to addiction issues stateside. But, that must be very small comfort right now.
Robert Came Home Before His Death
During the season six reunion that aired in January, Mary shared that Robert was in jail on eight charges. Those included a violation of a protective order involving his wife. Earlier that season, she talked about him relapsing after he went to rehab in 2024.
In December, Mary confirmed on Watch What Happens Live, that Robert had been in rehab. However, it didn’t change his ultimate untimely fate.
Fans React
When @omfgrealitytv shared the news on Instagram, lots of people wanted to say something about the RHOSLC decision. But not everyone thought it was a good idea for Mary to film so soon.

One of them opined, “Not a good decision. She should have skipped the season. The show is going to be boring and awkward because everyone will be walking on eggshells around her.”
Others didn’t agree with that, though. Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- My girl! Cause if she not on there I simply can’t watch it.
- No drama, no questions, no prying. Let her show what she wants.
- This lady is a national treasure. Protect her at all costs!
- I think she should definitely be taking a break but huge possibility she needs something to look forward to each day.
The New Season
While it’s not clear how much of the end of Robert’s life will feature in the next season, no doubt, Mary will say something about it. Plus, it seems that the other members of the cast rally around in support. Probably, you will see something of that in the new season.
