Survivor Spoilers – Contestants Quit!
Jeff Probst watched in shock as two contestants quit on the current season of Survivor. And the exits of both Sean Edwards and Hannah Rose included some parallels. For instance, both Sean and Hannah made their exit announcements at Tribal Council, noted MSN.
As a result, the other contestants felt shocked at both exit announcements because it impacted their voting plans. However, Survivor host Jeff observed a key difference between Hannah’s exit and Sean’s departure. But he threw shade at both for their frustrating departures.
“Just for some clarity, as much as you know anything going into Tribal, Sifu was going home,” recalled Probst at the situation prior to Sean’s exit. “That’s what all of our interviews said.” However, Probst noted that Sean couldn’t have known for certain.
“I think Sean thought… that he might be in trouble,” said Probst. “And he started to question if he was the vote. Because people tell you things, but you don’t always know the truth until you see your name on the parchment.”
Survivor Spoilers – An ‘Engineered Quit’
However, Probst admitted that Sean thought a key comment indicated a “blindsiding” situation. “And then when I asked him, ‘So, Sean, if this is it, what’s this journey been about?’… I think he thought it was a giveaway, and I think he thought, ‘Oh man, it is me. They’re blindsiding me.’ And so he starts talking about these powerful lessons that come with failure.”
But when Probst heard them, he recognizing that Sean planned to quit. However, the Survivor host questions if what Sean revealed as his reasons really matched the reality.
“Sean had been playing a very clever game,” Probst pointed out. “He’s a very clever guy. I’m going to be super clear: This was another engineered quit. And I ought to be honest, I think Sean tried to craft a narrative that worked for him.”
Survivor Spoilers – Sean Edwards Romanticizes Losing
And the Survivor host noted that Sean decided that he had gotten what he needed and wanted out of Survivor. And Probst added, “I realize he’s missing his family. But it’s not like you’re out there for another six months. It’s barely two more weeks.”
As a result, Sean annoyed Probst. “Sean frustrated me [because] I don’t think he owned it,” said Probst. However, he called “Hannah equally frustrating.”
But Jeff noticed that Hannah seemed more authentic. And he added, “She owned it. She said, ‘Look, I hate everything about Survivor.’ Sean romanticized it.”
And Probst noted that by romanticizing his exit, Sean sought to come back from the disappointment of departing from a game he thought he would win. However, Jeff noted that Survivor puts the focus on the experience, and that includes owning what happens.
