The Price Is Right: Drew Carey Refuses To Change With Times

The Price Is Right host Drew Carey refuses to change with the times. The game show has the highest ratings on daytime television. However, fans have been begging the show to cancel some of its games before the September premiere. Other viewers are tired of the same format and want something different. Keep on reading to learn more.

The Price Is Right – == Is Stuck In The Past

According to an insider associated with the game show, Drew Carey won’t change with the times. He feels responsible for keeping The Price Is Right close to the original. An insider closer to the show asked, “Where’s the innovation?” Even viewers are getting sick of the same format.

Drew Carey is “shockingly traditional” with the game show. Some fans feel it’s becoming more like “throwback TV.” Bill Todman and Mark Goodson rebooted the classic 1950s game show in 1972 with host Bob Barker. The game show has aired over 9,000 episodes since its debut.

The Price Is Right: Drew Carey Refuses To Change With Times

The Price Is Right has undergone some changes over the years. For example, there are bigger cash and prizes involved. But the show has kept many of its classic games. The source told The U.S. Sun that the CBS program still relies “on mini-games and format quirks that have hardly changed in a half-century.”

Fans of The Price Is Right have shared their thoughts on the recent episodes. Recently, viewers were disappointed with Lucky Seven and 3 Strikes.

They argued these games were “too tough” or “unfair” to the contestants. Other fans find other mini-games such as the Rat Race “creepy.” They begged producers to pull these segments from the show.

Drew Carey – Doesn’t Want to Make Changes

Drew Carey recently sat down for an interview about his time on the show. He revealed he has no intentions of retiring. Drew wants to host The Price Is Right for as long as he can. He’s also happy with the game show’s formula as well.

“I do think Drew is living in the past a bit by holding onto this gig for so many years, but he loves the format and has since he was a kid,” an insider told The U.S. Sun.

Drew Carey is the biggest attraction for the show. That’s not going to change. The Price Is Right is currently the third most popular game on CBS, according to US TVDB. The show attracts 3 to 4 million people per day. However, the game show still has yet to attract a younger generation of viewers.

Yes I think a few new games would make the show more appealing. Seeing same games over and over gets boring over time. Should do some games like Lets Make A Deal. They should come up with a wheel you spin to see if you can win some cash or a car.
That sounds more challenging then the rat race….

  2. DEBORAH WILSON says

DREW CAREY KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! MY HUSBAND AND I DON’T LIKE CHANGE EITHER. DREW KEEP THE SAME FORMAT AS YOU ARE DOING RIGHT NOW. KEEP THE SAME GAMES ON THE PRICE IS RIGHT. THE RAT RACE IS NOT CREEPY, WE LIKE TO SEE CONTESTANTS PLAY THE LUCKY 7 & 3 STRIKES, THE RAT RACE & ALL THE OTHER GAMES.
DREW, MY HUSBAND, GERALD WILSON AND I, DEBORAH, WE WAYCH YOU ON THE PRICE IS RIGHT EVERY DAY. WE NEVER MISS AN EPISODE. WE THINK IT’S GREAT THAT YOU DRES UP IN COSTUMES FOR HALLOWEEN & OTHER HOLIDAYS.
DREW, THE ONLY THING THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE OF IS THE PRIZES SUCH AS, MORE LIVING ROOM SETS, DINING ROOM SETS & BEDROOM SETS, AND SEE MORE TRUCKS FOR PRIZES. WE HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN “BOB” WAS THE HOST, THESE PRIZES THAT I HAVE LISTED HERE WERE ALWAYS ON
THE SHOW FOR CONTESTANTS TO PLAY THEIR GAME AND WIN OR IN THE SHOWCASES AT THE END OF THE SHOW.
DREW CAREY, IF YOU TAKE A BREAK IN THE SUMMER AND PLAY RETUNS THAT A “MORE THAN ALRIGHT WITH US”. DREW, YOU, JAMES, RACHEL AND ALL THE OTHER WOMEN THAT ARE THERE EVERYDAY SHOWING THE PRIZES AND HELPING WITH THE GAMES, YOU ALL DESERVE TO TAKE A BREAK.
DREW WE LOVE THE PRICE IS RIGHT & WE LOVE TO SEE YOUR SHINING FACES EVERYDAY ON THE SHOW.
DREW KEEP DOING THE PRICE IS RIGHT THE WAY YOU WANT IT DONE.
I DON’T THINK THAT THE PRICE IS RIGHT OR ANY OTHER GAME SHOW FOR THAT MATTER WILL EVER GET THE ATENTION OF THE YOUNGER GENERATION BECAUSE THE YOUNGER GENERATION IS ONLY INTERESTED IN TEXTING AND PLAYING ON THEIR CELL PHONES.

@ Deborah Wilson — Please do not type in all caps. That is considered yelling and rude.

Why does everyone think it’s okay to change everything. I and my twenty something kids love the price is right…so stop saying they aren’t appealing to the younger generation. Also why should Drew have to retire…Bob Barker didn’t until he was much older than Drew. Give him a break and leave things alone. Not sure why anyone would be creeped out over the rat race game…I think it is cute.

  4. AJ says

There’s something to be said for retaining a lot of the games — quite simply, familiarity.

There have been games that were retired for either being too complex or too out of date. (Anyone remember The Phone Home Game? The Shower Game? To name a couple.) The fact that an “insider” (who could be anything from a producer to a CBS page) says something is moot. Fremantle owns the show, not Drew. If they determine that a new game concept is in order, it’ll happen.

  5. Susan Avery says

Personally, I like that the Price Is Right has not changed. I watched it with my mother when I was young. Some individuals believe everything needs to be new, more exciting, and current with the times. If those individuals, don’t like the show, they can always change the channel and watch something else. Not everything needs to be new and improved.
Leave it and alone, the show has proven itself , that’s why it has been on the air for so long. Also, stop complaining about Drew, he has been doing a great job.

  6. John Pratt says

I don’t like the Price Is Right anymore. It seems like the show got rid of most games and kept some. It seems like that’s all you see now. It’s the same old games day after day. Week after week. The show isn’t the same like it was in the old studio plus ever since Drew took over the show is sobering. Drew doesn’t put anything in the show like Bob Barker did. Bob always put excitement in the show and suspense to the contestants if they are going to win the prize that they are playing for.

  7. Jesse says

The show is still great, BUT, no more boat prizes. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, but please, no more boats.

  8. Greg Briner says

I love the show. Yes a little mix up would be nice. I know Drew doesn’t care for Plink -O, but we love it. Since I retired, my butt is sitting ready at 10 am Monday- Friday watching CBS. I love the laughs and jokes. George is wonderful. I will watch no matter what you do.

  9. Raj says

One game they NEED to get rid of is that Punch game… It’s absolutely ridiculous.. at least make the amounts add up.. I’ve NEVER seen anybody win over $5k on it.. not fair to the contestants.
Rat Race game creepy?? Then don’t watch it. The format is fine.. every game show has a format to follow.

  10. Rick says

Please show me these fans who are upset about the show being too stuck in the past.

Seriously, how do you sleep at night just making shit up like this?

  11. Prince says

I love the Price Is Right… No matter where I travel I always try to find what time slot it’s on so I can watch. I think Drew is doing a great job!

  12. Ron says

Whats creepy about rat race? Cause toy rats? Please. Its one of the most exciting games on the show.

  13. Lenny Wu says

I really want One Away to be retired. It looks difficult and frustrating to watch,

  14. Ns says

Only game I really don’t like..that one where the money amount counts down so fast while contestant tries to put items in correct price area. Hardly anyone wins anything on that game. I’d like to see this game taken away.

  15. Bob Barker says

The show should retire these games: Stack the Deck, One Away, Three Strikes, and Lucky Seven, for instance. Jesse is correct. Do not offer boats. They are lame. Do not offer lawn equipment as part of a Showcase. That was dumb! Drew needs to not tell abvise a contestant to spin the Wheel again. He needs to keep his opinion to himself. When a bid is made, he can ask a clarification question to make sure the person meant it. Drew is bad at hearing bids on Contestants Row. He often has to have a bid repeated to him.

  16. BJK says

The assortment of games is fine.. why not add one new game each season and retire one. Yes, Lucky 7, One Away, Temptation and Cover Up make it very very difficult to win a car… retire one of these if you retire any.
Has anybody ever observed in the audience the number of minorities who attend the taping. I’m guessing 15-20% at the most. Yet, of the nine contestants on each show, traditionally 4-5 (on average) are minorities. Now we all know that contestants names are not picked out of a hat. Why the discrepancy?
